Roger we've been selling just the solenoid for a while and I'm pretty sure it's from Bosch but I don't have one on the shelf.
Let me know if your interested and I'll look into it.

Mark - That would be great and I will email you off line.

I do not know if the starter will fit with a pan spacer. Going to send one to someone who has one and find out.

If... or when... my starter fails I'll definitely order one. Fortuantely, my current starter is going great! Thanks, Joel

99% of what I sell are Bosch remanufactured for $106 plus a core charge. It appears that Bosch uses a couple of different facilities for remanufacture and some were shipped with solenoids that do not say “made in Germany” on them. Maybe 6 bad starters in the last four months and all have the solenoid with no made in Germany tag. Tried to buy the solenoid as a separate part for one customer and it is not available as a Bosch part through my normal suppliers. Searching and it can be bought but looks like a knock off and made in Taiwan. Not that is all that bad so I have a couple on order for one of my International customers to try out.
We now weed out the not made in Germany starters so hopefully the issue will go away.
Guess I was lucky # 6 Roger??

Just messin, The one that is NOT made in Taiwan now works great!!

the starter can be re positioned to not have the positive terminal up top.
