Carbon/carbon clutches anyone?
I need a couple more people that need/want a clutch "solution" for our cars to complete an order to fabricate an initial "run" of pieces. I've tried almost everything out there....and there is a significant "void" in clutch pieces that are smooth enough to be used on street cars and still hold big torque. I have a good friend that has taken the latest clutch technology and "adapted" it to very high output 911 Turbo engines, which have the same problem that our cars have....a small clutch area with big horsepower potential.
This is proven technology with many thousands of miles of testing....mostly with high output American torque applications.
Carbon/carbon clutch/flywheel assembly. Dual disc. Good for 850 ft. lbs. Very smooth....suitable for street use and track use.
Uses aluminum flywheel and aluminum pressure plate...so significantly lighter than stock pieces. Uses stock release arm. t/o bearing, etc.
The complete flywheel/clutch will be less than $4000.00....we're still "drawing pieces".
If you are interested, please contact me @ GregBBRD@aol.com

If this would have been out there when I did my conversion I would have been all over this.
At four grand, well folks, you are not going to do a DD for much less than that.

After 5000 miles, my uprated-spring-PP DD clutch is making mild slippy sensations under repeated hard acceleration, just a matter of time before something untoward happens. After listening to Tuomo bitch about his Spec clutch, I'm game for a carbon clutch just to help make another upgrade path/option possible.

They just don't work well in a street application....too severe....I'm trying to make something that works perfect for the street and also works good for track use.

And too rich for my blood, too. I wish this stuff was free. However, I need to solve the "void" between a "beefed" Porsche dual disc and a Tilton competition clutch. It has to be streetable.
After somewhere around 450 ft lbs, the Porsche dual disc clutches are very marginal.....time bombs. If they aren't rippping the lining off of the discs, they are breaking the "weak" strap springs.
The Tilton clutches will hold the torque, but are too severe, for street use.

How does the Tilton setup compare to the Spec clutches in terms of streetability? It is my understanding that the Spec clutches can hold over 500lb.ft of torque.

There must be others with the Spec clutch besides AO and Tuomo, but they are the two whose experiences with bedding-in come to mind. And it didn't sound like a good experience. Dunno if Andrew's is better now, hopefully he can comment.

That would not work for me.
I may have to see how this works out for GB, I bet I can sell all my DD stuff for at least half of what I need for that clutch.
I wonder what the pedal effort will be on it?
I know there is a pretty big difference in the SD and the DD setup.

Pretty sure AO's still makes noise when it is let out in first.
