Although one would think it would be easy to just copy the original drive shafts, it wasn't and there is a learning curve in getting these done to a high specification.

300M is a stronger alloy than our regular drive shafts and is considered "the" material for such uses. You can ask Gregg B. more about it since you are using him for your build up. Don't really want to talk you or anyone into anything. If you consider it a needed upgrade for your project, we can get it done for you.

The Porsche drive shafts do quite well but are getting older and more are fracturing from what we are seeing coming in, both the 25mm and 28mm automatic drive shafts. 5-Speed drive shafts not so much, more of a problem with the transmission end splines going away.

What Mark A. is doing though is on a whole other level. That he has only broken two in his racing career speaks well of the original drive shaft.

Good luck with your interesting project!

Kind regards,
300M is what the off road guys use to make hubs and axles. It was in really short supply, when we first went into Iraq, if that tells you anything....

That is going to depend on which dyno you chose to use.

Sorry, been busy (a lot) lately.

Yeah, breakin is a bitch with the Spec 3+, but that was many moons ago. Been problem free and very streetable since. Power holds without issue. I don't think there is any solution to the long horrible break in, except lots of stop and go. It will frustrate you to no end, but when it's over, it's over. At least that was my experience.

I've driven Andrew's car and if he wouldn't have told me it was a Spec 3+ I never would have known except for a little chatter in reverse.

as noted I have the spec stage 3+ too, but mine is dual disc, with aluminium flywheel.
I had no shuddering noises etc right from day 1

Yeah... Reverse still kinda sucks, but I rarely use it.

The chirpping off the line is still there sometimes, but not always. It's not a deal breaker for me.

I'd say 450/450, with a "beefed" up pressure plate.

Completely stock...way less than that.

I would say around 330-340rwhp tops in unmodified and used parts.
If everything new I would say 350.

My guess;

Stock DD and basic hybrid with no boost is fine.
Stock DD and basic hybrid with boost trouble.
Fresh DD with enhanced PP ok maybe up to 6 psi or so, for sure 8+.

One of the reasons I decided to keep "close" to a basic hybrid build is that its on the doormat of driveline problems.

With new (or slightly used) stock DD parts, you will be able to reliably hold a little more than 400rwhp and rwlb.ft on a street car. A dyno day with multiple 928's of different power levels and a logged ST2 injector duty cycle of >75% with 42lb injectors is pretty good verification of the numbers. I still have that modified pressure plate sitting in the garage, it has not been needed yet. Daily driven hard with 285/30-18 tires in the back. The stock single disc clutch could not handle it.

I've run carbon/carbon clutches on the street and they are very smooth not bitey (poor word) like the ceramic/metallic clutches.

That's what they claim...and what I'm hoping for.
