So rare that no one is even looking for them.![hiha](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/roflmao.gif)
There were not a lot of them manufactured but the work that went into that program is astounding. All of the parts looks as though they were made by the thousands. They are fully developed factory parts, no hint of being prototypes or low volume pieces. They all have factory 928 part numbers.
I got my set from Mark Anderson and I believe he got them from someone that took an engine out of a boat to put in a car.

Porsche even made an airplane engine.....aircooled flat six 911 however converted from chain driven cams to a more reliable gear drive...Porsche seems to love the engineering challege even if it never sells well. God bless them

Lest we forget tractors. The contract to built tractors and a couple of gran prix cars is what got father Porsche out of the French prison.

The 5 liter is ONLY $15,571 .....actually not too bad for a NEW S-4 engine with brains etc.
The 356 is just wrong in so many ways !!! How to get 90 hp into a boat...... and then be aircooled when you are on top of the worlds largest heat exchanger

I love it but it just seems bizarre. I know Europeans wouldn't run Mercruiser or American V8s in fast boats but why the 928 engine?

Going through some old car magazines I stumbled upon this project. Mercury Marine made a few 24' boats with the original ZR-1 engine back in the day. The trailer had Corvette wheels and ZR-1 tail lights.
The interior of the boat was also based on the 2nd generation C4 Vette

Because boat engines get run at near full throttle full load all the time they often do not last all that long. In a car they are coasting down the road at 75 mph using maybe 50-75 hp to do it. Boats which plane do not coast well. Porsche when they tested the 928 engines did a bit over 100 hours at load and stated that was equal to a lifetime of normal driving.....get 500 hours out of a boat engine and it did pretty well.

Saturday was clear and bright so I took the oportunity to get some of the trailer welding out of the way. I dont like to mig weld or grind in the garage area so Alice brought the welding bench out to the drive way. The trailer had a lot of clamped on appendages that made it adjustable to fit different boats. All of these overlapped parts and threaded fasteners just invite rust so I trimmed off all of the mounting tabs and started welding everything is place. The end result is a much smoother look and no water traps that would have caused rust issues.
While I was up close and really scrutinizing things, I found a 2" long crack in the trailer tongue. Happy to catch it before it caused a disaster, I ground it out and welded it up. I still have more welding to do but I did get a good start. I also mocked up the fenders, marked them for trimming and brought them to work where I can do a clean job of cutting them.
