Whoa...the pressure is on now

Hey mark, that Glastron is an awesome choice. They are really starting to be recognized as a classic boat and I would have been very happy to grab one for my project.

I'm thinking your HP level combined with the stern drive is gonna kick my boat's butt

Well the only thing I wish to accomplish with this boat is to have a unique, Porsche boat, as I feel the factory could/would have done back in the mid 80's.

Looking at the SBC that was pulled for me this last weekend, I hope the 951 assembly fits! Might be tigher than I anticipated, but I also have the sides of the engine bay to work with (with my coolers & such).

Hi Mark,

It is great to see and hear about your "Porsche Boat" project too!! I think what you are doing is a great fit. Even the styling of the Carlson's is/was sort of Porsche like in their day and with the right paint scheme some could even mistake it for one of the real Porsche/Kineo boats, or at a minimum get the spirit of your project!

Yes, the pic is my boat...and no there is no planned Porsche power in it's future. If it were any other boat I might consider it..but due to the rarity(1 of 1 ever) and the Offshore Racing History/Results of this particular boat it is not appropriate.

BTW, we need to catch up, been way too long and I miss our conversations from years ago! Plus, we now have something else in common to talk about!! .

Cheers,

Dave

Agreed David: time flies too fast these days.

You have a very unique boat: I had no idea: very cool! I'll probably start a website to cover the the restoration/conversion of this boat to "Porsche specs".

I have both an extra 951 engine & an extra '86 engine: not sure which one I'll use (first), but will shoot for the 951: it fits my overall plans for the boat better.

Cheers!

One nice thing about boats is the nearly unlimited supply of cold water to run over an intercooler. No need to struggle with air to air, go for the cold liquid called water !! much better overall results ! Lake Austin sems to be around 80 dergees which may be much better than curent air temps and liquids transfer heat far far better than gasses like "air".

Boats are neat, had a few over the years. Would like to get one after I stop tracking cars. The problem I find is fiberglass boats are not all fiberglass, only recently have they stopped using WOOD for the transom and stringers and floor. While the outerskin may be O K they often need major repair and wood replacement to be anywhere near seaworthy. Go online and research boat restoration and it will blow you away seeing the time engery and money some are willing to spend saving and old "fiberglass" boat. True labors of love since it is illogical and irrational at best.

Dave and Mark,

Any progress??

Finished making my all new engine harness and installing it plus all new fueling system from tank pickup to carb this weekend. Fired right today up after over 1 year of silence and I thought about you guys.

Mark,

BTW, a guy with a "homemade" 3.0L Turbo in a 25' Eliminator did 134mph at LOTO this weekend....it is a 6 cyl, but thought you might like to see "under the hood".

Nice !

Keep the progress reports coming, I need the motivation to stay on task.

I'm plugging away but it's not really picuture worthy stuff, just tedious welding.

My A.D.D. tendencies have me working two other projects along with the boat...here is one of them:

Thank you Dave

Here is the other project...all done except for some carb work. 74' Suzuki 750GT. Water cooled two stroke. My Dad bought one back in 74' so this is a nostalgia bike for me.

My transporter plans to grab my boat by this Friday, so with any luck I'll have it by next weekend. I have a lot of rebuilding to do before I fire it up: plan to rebuild the entire boat, paint it, etc. Gonna be fun!
