Default Trailer again

I had a lot of trouble getting a 24' boat trailer through the crowded shop but eventually managed to cram it into the spray booth on edge. It will get coated this afternoon and go home tomorrow. While the trailer is here I took the opportunity to throw on my freshly coated Jeep CJ7 frame and send it home.

Hey..maybe a CJ with a nice 4.5 16 valver in it

Default Update

Minor update today...

The trailer frame coating is cured and I'll load the frame up for the trip to my home shop. I spent some time this morning rearranging things in the garage so I now have an indoor space to put this trailer together.
I had the axle assemblies blasted and dropped them at home for disassembly. I'll bring the individual parts in to work and have them coated the next time we have black epoxy mixed.

Got a present from Brownie.....the wheel adapter/spacers are here already! Sorry..crappy I phone pic.

Default First mockup engine test fit.

Here is my weekend update.....

On Friday, I stripped the axles and suspension down to individual parts and hung them in the spray booth. They will get epoxy coated today (Monday). The brakes are in tough shape and it looks like they have not been functional for a long time. I can save most of parts but will need new wheel cylinders and a set of shoes.

On to the boat.....I had some sunshine and free time so I decided to take a shot at test fitting the engine. To give you an idea of what the situation looks like, here are 3 pics of the boat. When viewed from the rear, the hull is very shallow and has 3 sections that touch the water. The center one incorporates the engine, jet pump water pickup and the jet itself. The interior shot shows how cramped the driver position is. My knees will likely be above the dash board.

Pic one shows the target......the splined shaft of the jet drive. I hope to lower the engine into place and line up with this shaft before the oil sump hits the floor of the boat. Measurements indicate that it will be very close but doable.

Pic 2...Alice brings in the engine and starts to lower it into place.

Pic 3..View from the rear

We dont get to far before this pops up... It looks like a remote filter mount will be needed. Probably just as well because future oil changes would have been very difficult down in the bilge area.

So..oil filter out of the way and we continue lowering. It goes low enough to hook up up the driveshaft before the engine hits the floor so I am starting to smile at this point.

first pic...lowered into place. 2nd pic..I put a socket on the crankbolt, gave it a slight rotation and the engine slid back onto the pump shaft. 3rd pic....A pc of angle iron placed across the stringers happened to be at the perfect height to support the engine by the crank end.

Here are a few shots of the mockup engine in place. Space is very limited but it does look like it will all work out.

I need to make some slight adjustments to make sure the engine and jet pump are aligned vertically but that will actually raise the rear of the engine a bit so I will have clearance between the bell housing and the boat floor. I am making a temporary rear engine support so I can hold things in the exact position while I fab the motor mounts.

One more test fit, while I'm at this stage............

My modified big block chevy headers seem to fit in the space available and also exit over the transom at an acceptable height. I'm still not certain if I will use these or make a set from scratch, but at least I can see that headers will fit in there with the wide 928 engine.

So...for the first time in this project I can say I have a boat with a 928 engine in it, rather than an empty hull with a load of parts scattered around.

Next up, fab some engine mounts.

That looks awesome. Glad to hear there are no serious interference issues. That is going to be one loud boat.
