What kind of spacers did you double stack to achieve 11mm?

Excellent info, thanks! I'm trying to do as much of this towing "by the book" as I can. Don't want to hurt myself, my car, my truck, or worst if all, someone else. As my brother said yesterday, "towing is a big responsibility." Yep.

A 4mm and a 7mm

The 4s are from Wheel Enhancement. The 7s are... Not. And I'd never recommend double stacking spacers. This was just for test fitting purposes. Eric's looking at some 10mm spacers that should get the job done. eBay units that are hub centric like the W.E. ones.

Right on. Get studded spacers. 11mm is too much for S4 lug studs (not enough lug thread engagement) .

I was surprised how much thread there was left to grab, actually. Seemed like plenty. Up to the bro man I suppose. These are for him.

Sorry if you've answered this before but what are the rims on the car in your signature icon?

I like the idea of studded spacers, except the minimum spacer thickness anybody seems to have studded in our bolt pattern is 1 inch (way too thick for this application).

I think I would have to replace my stock studs with longer studs to pass through a 10 mm spacer. Losing 10 mm of lug nut engagement seems like too much (unsafe).

In my avatar? Those are 18" Carrera IIIs. 8s in front, 10s in rear. 57 and 58mm offset, respectively. Easiest 18" wheel to fit to a 928.

Of course, the above depends on 1) the thickness of the wheel being the same on both wheels where the studs pass through, and 2) the factory lug nut shoulders seating properly in the tapers of the 996 wheels, which I am wondering about because apparently 996 models in the 1999-2004 era used lug bolts instead of nuts on studs. Anybody know if the taper is the same as on our 928s?

Mike, you could take one of the Techno wheels and one of your factory lug nuts, and apply some grease to the nut and put it in the hole of the loose wheel (laying flat off the car). This would let you see how the nut shoulder seats in the wheel hole.

Absolutely. But I think the sport technos are not from 99-04. I think they're newer than that. Will check.

They were a one year wheel - 2003. Interesting. Will go check the taper here shortly. When I installed them, my tire iron spun at least 10 times on each lug.

I think they are from 2002-2006. Sorry to hijack your Kraken thread...I should probably start a new thread about this. Or you can with the pic of them on your car...

Do current Porsches use lug bolts, or did they go back to studs with lug nuts?
