Default Dans 86.5 refresh project

Got another project, Dan got this 86.5 its pretty dirty from running on a muddy road so lots to clean up.
It has 47,500 showing so it has a lot of life left in it.
lots to do so here is the start replace front bumper shocks,
clean out the V and intake, had a good amount of oil from a leaking oil fill spout
Getting new wires and plugs, MMs and OPG, PS lines, timing belt inspection
clean out the rusty washer tank replace the Y connector,
the interior is getting cashmere carpets,
still waiting for new Bilstien shocks,
Porken chips are going in with the 87 FPR and new fuel lines.
Also getting an AC refresh with all new O rings and other assorted parts

link from the other thread i started about this car..

That car will be fantastic.

I am about to replace my fuel lines on my 85. Is there a specific reason to replace the FPR with an S 4 one?

if your putting Porken chips in then you swap out the FPR with an 87 S4 unit

Stan, Looks like you are well under way. I just bought an 86.5 so will be watching this thread. Please continue to post pics of the progress if the camera doesn't get too much in your way.

It's sad to see these cars go bad from sitting around unused. Hopefully Dan will put a lot of therapeutic miles on it after you refurb it. Looks like you are well underway, Stan. I'm sure you noted the wavy door seal shown in the second pic too. The dash/console/glovebox gaps look very wide. Is that right for leather? I'm sure this car will look like new when you get done.

Stan,
That car looks real nice under all the grime and neglect. It should turn out very well. Who is Dan? Local?

Wow, it's blue.

If you do any interior stuff, please, include me in what you do. My carpet and dash are the exact same color, fading notwithstanding so I would love to be "in the loop" of whatever you may find/do that might help me keep color-coordinated resource-wise.

Looks like she'll be a pretty unit. I think I saw this car offered some years ago when I lived in Houston.

Almost jumped on it then.

I'm Daniel (Dan) in STL. When Michael (black28) calls and says, "Stan wants to talk to you about a car", you just get out the checkbook, don't ask questions. I had a lot of reservations too about the blue-ness factor. We will see if the carpet and door inserts in cashmere break it up enough. The seats are too nice to ditch. If I thought it would work I would redye to cashmere, but that never seems to look just right. Not sure the budget allows the full interior recover...

Looks great Stan! Thank you!

Well a little update no pictures yet , got the front bumper shocks done and installed new beading, new MMs are in as well as the OPG, fixed the pivot bolt and bushings on the tensioner, checked timing with the Porken tool, cleaned out the washer tank and removed the rusty collars, added a new Y connector , intake is off waiting for a new short harness , added a new ISV and TPS.
New fuel lines installed
Installed a new clutch release arm bushing
New foams for the front block off plates, new thermostat and rear seal and O ring.
Tightened the drive shaft pinch bolts the rear pinch bolt was very loose
Removed the bolts for the front seats in anticipation of getting the carpet kit in a week or so

Next up are Bilstien front shocks while the LCAs are apart.

Then take the AC apart to replace all of the O rings and the expansion valve and drier possibly add new AC compressor flex hoses.
PS pump lines and new reservoir are also on the list.
As are new plug wires and plugs, and aircleaner and oil and filter change,
A new hood pad will also be installed

yes new foams are about 6 bux a piece the old foams seem to degrade then the outer layer turns to a sticky tar substance, very messy to clean off, new foams plug into the plastic edges,
this will seal the fenders from water though the fender liners seem to do that as well

Is a TPS and ISV replacement necessary when refreshing vacuum, fuel and intake?

Edit: If Mrmerlin thinks it is necessary on a 47k car, it is necessary for mine.
