Air Bag Malfunction and shark tuner
I read somewhere, it doesn't come up in search now, that the shark tuner will clear an air bag maflunction warning light?? Anybody know for sure? Thanks.

No, a Sharktuner can't clear airbag warnings. As far as I know airbag warnings aren't "stored" as codes, rather the dash indicator for airbag-fault shows as long as the fault condition persists.

That would be interesting if the Shark Tuner had a "deploy" option for the airbag.

Incorrect. Air bag faults are stored in the airbag controller. They can be downloaded, and cleared from the Bosch Hammer. Most airbag faults will devolve to high resistance built up over time in the sensor wiring.

Theo's tool will work for airbag codes. I used it on my 1990 S4 and found the impact sensor on the driver's side was resistive. Unplugged the impact sensor and plugged it back in. Code was cleared. That was 2 years ago...

You must do the cleaning of the plug. But you can then clear the fault in the dash diagnostic process.

"Cleaning of the plug" What means this?
For 299 euros Theo provides the software and hardware and you have to clean the plug. I'll have you know my plug is clean.

The plug where the loom plugs into the sensor for the airbags is on each side of the car on the side right in front of the door. These are very "sensthitive" about voltage.

Theo's tool diagnosed the air bag ecu fault on the '91, the dreaded Code 67, "Control Unit Defective", OUCH! Per emails from Theo, he confirmed the diagnosis. Cant get a new 928 air bag ecu. A new 944 AB ecu is supposed to substitute for a 928, those are about $2800!! Been told not to mess with a used AB ecu since its more a matter of the age of the unit that results in one going bad. So paying $700 for a used one might see that one not lasting either. Daniel did you get a specific code on yours that told you it was the sensor? Sure would be great if it was a sensor or connector & not the ecu.

oh, and it is confirmed that you cannot clear out that fault warning on the dash, or disconnect anything till you collect enough coke bottles to pay for the new ecu. Porsche wouldnt allow such since its a safety issue & the potential liability.

Sorry Steve,
Seriously though, when I did mine, it literally looked new when I disconnected the plug. Cleaned and preserved with "DeOxit", reconnected, reset the error code, and all has been well for two years now.
"Sensitive" is a bit of an understatement with those connectors. Although I asume if you have a sensitive plug, you've learned to deal with it appropriately..

Can someone give a bit more detail regarding location & access to the sensors?? Do I read that they're under the front quarter panels near the door hinges? high, low?? what am I looking for specifically? thx

Hi Ed, I happened to find & read your thread a little earlier today, AND I saved it too, great info & encouragement too. thx. So your AB fault never came back on the dash??
I'm just concerned that this is not a sensor or connector, since Theo's tool gave it as failure of the control unit & not a sensor problem. I may take it to my 928 mechanic or Brumos to have someone with a hammer confirm the diagnosis. I've spoken to both about it. My mechanic is the one who said don't waste your money on a used AB ecu. The head of Brumos service & restoration commented that many times it can be a sensor or connection. Keepin my fingers crossed.

The digital dash does indeed have the resetting capability. I did it in the 91 I am selling. Worked great.
