But they did shower about a thousand times more often than the twice a lifetime that the Europeans did at the time.

It is a wonder any of those guys got laid, other than rape.

Blame the church for that. I've heard the French still practice this ritual.

Hairy pits and such on the side for now ,

I am thinking that, now that we know it "fits", the challenge Aspkiller will face is the usual conversion stuff I read about:
  • Mount points for the tranny to our cross member (cradle)
  • Half-shaft lengths, and
  • Coming up with a unique half-shaft with a Corvette CV Joint on the inboard/tranny end and a Porsche 928 CV Joint on the outboard/wheel hub end.
The latter is similar to what VW guys wrestle with, but they mix Porsche-VW or Subaru-VW in their unique half-shafts. Probably something the Kit car guys deal with as well.

Last edited by hernanca; 04-07-2011 at 09:27 AM. Reason: Terminology. Wobbly end of half-shaft = CV Joint!

There are several sets of ratios depending on which trans you get. Also a couple of different diff ratios.

Base C5/C6, C6 Z06:
2.66 1.78 1.30 1.00 0.74 0.50

C5 Z06:
2.97 2.07 1.43 1.00 0.84 0.56

C6 Z51:
2.97 2.07 1.43 1.00 0.71 0.57

Here are some combined ratios for comparison. While there are many different combinations available with various Corvette boxes, this is the one we are testing first. It falls in between the 2.73and the 2.2 of the Porsche. Change the diff ratio and you can get just about anywhere you might want to go. Selecting a different stock tranny will also let you customize your performance to the motor you're running or might use in the future. One of the benefits of the Vette tranny is the availability of reasonably priced parts, not just the ability to handle more power. Of course, actually finding the gear you're looking for is another advantage of the Corvette.

I think these are correct. Please advise any mistakes on my part.

Just checked the post and see that the numbers are pretty crowded. Oh well.

3.42 2.73 2.20
1st 2.66 9.10 10.28 8.95
2nd 1.78 6.09 6.86 5.97
3rd 1.30 4.45 4.89 4.25
4th 1.00 3.42 3.70 3.22
5th 0.74 2.53 2.73 2.20
6th 0.50 1.71 n/a n/a

Code:
	             3.42 2.73 2.20
1st 2.66 9.10 10.28 8.95
2nd 1.78 6.09 6.86 5.97
3rd 1.30 4.45 4.89 4.25
4th 1.00 3.42 3.70 3.22
5th 0.74 2.53 2.73 2.20
6th 0.50 1.71 n/a n/a
There you go.
Use the "code" tag for this kind of stuff.

If Vette automatic has same TT and box dimensions it might be possible to make conversion kit for it also. '06-> box is 6sp AFAIK.

Haven't looked at the auto yet, but I suspect that it will also fit. Perfect for s/c street cars and 928 dragsters.

Yes I have seen the Vette auto, a bit like our auto, the diff bolts on to the gearbox. It may be easier to make an adaption to our diff and that gearbox as then you can still use the Porsche shafts and the PSD. It is a great gearbox that comes with the paddle option. I have one with out paddles in our Caprice.
