"Since you work on these, I'm sure you know the company that makes the Porsche conversion kit to use the Vette Tremec/Getrag transaxle...given any thoughts to upgrading to a 6 speed?"

My reply
Nope, the dimensions of the C5/C6 transaxle are all wrong for a 928.
Been talk and drawings of a six speed for ten years, even a web site, but alas, it is vaporware.
I wish there was a conversion kit for them, we really need a good strong 5/6 speed for some of the cars, the stock units are only good for about 500 FT/LBS max.
I may have to end up putting the auto back in mine when I do the stroker this year (possibly next at my rate).
I have a good 89 auto which has a different ratio than my 87, a 2:56 vs the 2:20.
They are never done as long as you drive them, it seems
and his to mine

The Getrag diff will bolt up to Keisler RS 600 with the adapter from the back of the Tremec box (Vette)...and the T56/T6060 internals will fit in the T45/RS 600 case with a custom extension on the housing.
If you're interested, PM me.

I did PM him for more info...................
I've never heard about this mythical 6 speed kit, but it was cool seeing pictures of your shop with multiple 928s. I didn't realize it, but Sharpsburg is only about 30 minutes from my father's shop in Griffin. Next time I'm home (I'll be there in June for a wedding), I'd love to stop by and introduce myself if you're around.

I know that RSGear makes plenty of strong transmissions....

Here is their medium performance version.... I talked to them a while back and they said they could make 928 internals out of the better 9310 alloy...which would provide the strength needed.....He thought it would cost a bit more than tranzilla...he said maybe $7k for something that will hold 800ftlbs
What about other transaxles used in mid engined kit cars....like the Porsche G50 series or the Riccardo unit from the Ford GT...both of those are well under $10k....

Then again, if the money is there, the work can be done.
Where is that link?
I have a C5 differential and am still contemplating mating it to an AX15 as the internals are the same as an R154 from a toyota Supra and the newer Aisin MA5 found in the Pontiac Solstice (LS1 swap). If there is another tranny it will bolt to I'm all ears.

He may be worth talking to, if you can get 10 or so people together who want this conversion. Here is his link: http://www.thedrivenman.com/
