I coerced my tree-damaged skid-plate forward attachment tab (below the frame rail) into a more original shape, and bolted on a good used skid plate with bash plate. (I'm very happy the latter was there, but it might be too strong - shouldn't it yield in a collision before the car's supporting structure?)

Decided to replace my front disks and pads on my '83. Got the driver's side apart and it started raining!! Threw all the tools on my van and ran inside. I only got one side done today. Looks like I'll be putting on a 'pre-rusted' disk on the other side tomorrow.LOL

I wrestled the first of three new, large plastic parts into position yesterday to repair my tree collision damage. Today, I'll carefully install the new bumper cover with its pristine paint job. There may be a day when I scratch this cover, or smash it against a rail, or hit a deer, or otherwise face defeat - but not this day.

I swapped in a working distributor after concluding that the vacuum advance (retard) wasn't going to come loose on the old one.

I didn't think the magnetic pick-up could seize like that but when the magnet started to break up as I forced it I realized the towel needed to be thrown.

Replaced the bad brake lines. Washed it. Drove it to settle down for alignment.

earlier this evening I wiped everything down with acetone and started to apply body putty to areas where it was needed on the passenger side and roof.

Replaced the 4Runner JBLs, which were "installed" in the B-pillars by a PO, with some nice woofers from Hans, and installed tweeters (which had been removed and not replaced by a PO). Along the way, also repaired and repainted the remainders of the original woofers that are now being used as frames for mounting the new drivers.

They're in. They are properly attached. They look a lot better than the previous solution. They sound a lot better... but I'm still not sure they're right. When I get my door panel parts in, and replace the door speakers, part of the task will definitely be verifying wire-by-wire what's connected where and in what phase for the four channels (OE amp was also replaced by a PO.)

Anyway, it's progress....

Virgin bumper cover installed. Went in a little, obstruction moved. A little further, another obstruction moved. Et cetera. Suddenly, almost all the way. Screws brought it in tight. I have the shiniest bumper in the land. All construction vehicles must stay 200 feet in front.

Pulled the water pump and inspected. Have to admit, it looks like new. Also pulled the oil pump pulley, and it to looks good. Some invoices say that the PO purchased the parts in 2013 11,000 miles ago. Can't find anything on the oil pump or water pump purchases.

The oil pump pulley looks like new.
