Default !!! AC Fitting Locations !!!

Mikebte--

The HIGH pressure fitting is in the high-pressure plumbing at the condenser, right (US passenger) side of the condenser. The LOW pressure fitting is in the suction piping returning to the compressor, below the jump post and usually obstructed by the upper radiator hose and some other things. DO NOT MIX THEM UP, especially if you are charging the system. The small cans in particular will often grenade on you if connected to the high side accidentally.

good to see I am not the only one with bad hood shocks.

The other end of that hardline connects at a T fitting on the bulkhead forward of the battery box. Drop the exhaust for easier access. The line is supported in plastic clips across that bulkhead, and will pop out of them with a little careful work. Gearbox stays in place. Easy to extract the line towards the right side. You can buy pre-flared sections of brake tubing at better parts stores. Form the new line gently, with a bender if possible but by hand if necessary. Keep the bend radii large enough to avoid kinking the tubing. Use Anti-Seize On The Tube Where The Nut Sits, and on the Outside of the Threads of the. Do Not Put Anti-Seize On The Flared End. Option: Non-Metallic Silicone Grease.

The male fitting eventually rounded itself and vise grips were a last ditch failure. So off with its head. And no that thingy is not a spark plug.

The hardline has a little slack so we trimmed off the fitting and prepped it for a re-flare but first attempt did not work and time ran out so the fun continues tomorrow. It would be a RPITA to have to replace the entire hardline because it looks like the transmission needs to be dropped to fish out the old line and insert new one. Any advice or tips are welcome.

Thanks Dr. Bob. I ended up cutting off the end and re-flaring. There was just enough slack(if you can call it that) in the hardline. The reconnect to new SS lines was successful. I ran into a broken nipple issue and am in the process of writing up the recovery plan for posting.

Default Two quick questions that don't need a thread

On my 86.5
1. Where is the horn? Can't see it or find it listed in the manual and need to trouble shoot it beyond the relay.
2. Is the best access to replace the windshield washer pump by pulling the coolant reservoir tank or is it access-able by removing the right front fender liner.
Just trying to knock off a couple of "should be easy to fix issues".
Cheers, Steve

1. The horns are behind the right side front splash guard.
2. Yes this pump has terrible access, coolant reservoir and the filler neck have to come out.

added another coat of 2k primer and put her under a new car cover. I've got a sailboat in the middle of a refit, and family coming to visit in mid June! I plan to continue work on drive train and fitting my relined clutch friction discs.

Thanks Alex, Saw the pump back there when I did my cam covers. Wished I did it then but I will be nice to have the washer back and functioning horn just in case. Steve

A silly amount of work.

All of it here:

On the 79
Replace dash wiring harness
Repair some horrible PO work done to the CE panel...check out the ignition switch the car came with too!
Replace eccentrics and lower ball joints
Replace column support, because old one had the ignition end broken off. ???

On the 87
New 928intl Alum Radiator
Hans's fan shroud kit W/two 12" Spal fans (awesome)
Added a 12" pusher fan for the AC on hot city driving days
Hans's cross brace (nice)

Finished off my idle issue work by replacing all spark plugs. Also replaced ground strap with a new one that was still in a box that I found on my parts maintenance shelf. The one I removed was dissected and was pristine. Kept it.

Still on jack stands. Waiting for new tie rods.

It's just starting to get milder here. Don't like to work on the car in the cold...

BTW, love black wheels on black cars.
Looks great Kent.

I have a new set of bushings from Roger I bought few years ago.

This would be the perfect time to change them.

Thanks for the reminder Malcolm!

Default Funny nuts!

After bending Two pair of needle nose pliers, I finally got the hardware off from my valve cover. I machined out a half inch drive, 7/8 socket to fit the nut. I truly thought it was stuck.
