Jarrod, if I could make a living designing Porshe wheels and restoring 928s, I will do it. We'll just have to see how it goes.

I see a little phone dial in the Cup I wheel, in particular. The PD was just an early 5-spoke with more design.
I suspect Porsche went away from full wheel design when wheels got bigger, and the need to clear bigger brakes... to take weight out of a cast wheel, and get away from expensive forged wheels. I think this is what led to the cast 5-spoke Cup designs.

+1

18" Cup II for me also or even better Speedline replicas with correct front ET. Though if $ is right 18" phone dials are interesting also. 3-piece setup allows 10.5" or 11" rears to be made easily and thus 255/35 and 315/30 rubber is doable in GTS without rolling fenders.

Only problem I see in having 3-piece setup with mounting hidden on inside is that it eats little room which could be used for large brake calipers. 8x18 ET49 OZ Mito-3 set I have has similar construction and stock GTS front caliper fits fine but there is no hope at all to use large F50 Brembo setup.

I love that last design. I even love the black. That would look sooo good on Black Magic, rather than the chrome phone dials.

That is killer, Jim! Nice work! Depending on the specs of the rim halves, you could potentially offer these to other p-car owners in other offsets/widths (but I'm sure you already knew that).

Those wheels are JUST RIGHT.

I'm no designer. I have no eye for fashion or style whatsoever. I can't even really explain why I love the design of the 928 so much. But when I see something that's aesthetically clean and balanced and mechanically functional I know it.

Can't wait to see these on some cars.

I LOVE the phone dials but there is just a bit too much room left over with the stock 16s.:

Jim these look sensational although I am uncertain about going to 18" rims that may sacrifice some ride quality. I would be happy though with a 17" set in the silver although the black also looks great. Add me to the list of interested parties.

Cheers

The design is nearing completion and we're preparing to release the wheel for prototyping.
If all goes well, I may bring a sample to show at the 928 Frenzy in October!

Current specs on the wheels are:

Front - 18" x 8.5 ET63
Rear - 18" x 10 ET63

Modular 3-piece construction w/backside concealed hardware

6061 Aluminum, Forged

Note: specs are subject to change as needed

We're very excited about this project and have alot of momentum going right now. Stay tuned!

I was just looking at my Cup 1's the other day, feeling the PD influence.

OH, wow.
THat price point will defeat me. Highlighting gives some good ideas for potential pc/polished combos. Epic.

Jim, keep in mind that there are other people outside of the Porsche community that like these wheels. Namely, the VW crowd. They end up using different adapters for non-standard wheels. I've seen a few phone-dials on Golfs though.

There used to BE a 18" phone-dial replica, but they have gone out of production. I believe it was called the Autostrada "Monza". Your wheel however, looks to be about 100% better looking.

Any idea of the weight of the finished wheels? Also, could the outer wheel ring be chromed leaving the actual wheel face to be colored or whatever the owner desires? Kind of like a Fikse wheel with the "hidden" bolts.

Great.

Really gotta look good with the design in 18s.

At this point, I'm not set up as a sponsor/vendor here, so I prefer to defer until I'm further down the pipeline.
I believe they'll be very competitive with other wheels of a similar construction.
On one end, they won't compete with a Carrera III take-offs. On the other end, the won't be in the Kinesis or Fuchs stratosphere.

I've been very conscious about controlling weight throughout the process.

Current weights are a touch under 26.5# front, and 28# rear.
I'm pleased with this considering it's a "closed spoke" full wheel design, as opposed to an "open spoke" (ie. traditional 5-spoke).

Comparable wheels of similar size:
18" 993 Turbo Hollow-spoke - 22# front, 23# rear
18" 996 Turbo Replica - 28# front, 29# rear

For relative comparison, if I were to just "scale up" the original design 16"phone dial to 18", it would weight over 30# !

So, I'm in the ballpark but not breaking any records.

In the near-term, I plan to keep it simple and "stock-like", offering a Porsche silver painted finish.

Of course, owners may customize to suite their particular taste. If they prefer a "naked" wheel, I'm sure that can be arranged.

There's just not alot of wiggle in this grassroots project to have a seriously broad range of product offering and options at this point.

The unforseeable future is wide open, but only the success of this project will determine that.

Thanks for all the questions and support!

Final design review tonite, release for prototype tomorrow.
