Are those wheels legal? They look like some sort of ninja weapon...

I'm keen too. I'd be willing to throw in some NRE too - especially if that helps the process along!

Hi Donald,
The project has stalled primarily due to not having found a ideal size forged monoblock, from which to cut the design.
The "off the shelf" forgings are not deep enough to handle all the shape of the front face of the phone dials.
My search hasn't been exhaustive, but enough to get a flavor of what's out there.
I think is would take a pretty special monoblock to foot the bill.

Wish I had better news for ya. Wish I had $40K to have custom forgings tooled up.

Default OTOH

If we stray from the original design, and create a new design based on the original, we could tune the new design to work with available forgings.

Agree with Jim, and we could also include explorations of using the hole shape from either the flat or non-flat phone dials, on a flatter base like that of the Strosek wheel (Strosek wheels pictured, below). Maybe we don't need as deep of a "mote" as found in the Strosek and flat phone dials?

This 2012 Dodge compact appears to have a set of phone dials...

That would be unfortunate if Dodge suddenly put phonedials on a bunch of compact cars.......as in "Why did you put Dodge wheels on your Porsche ??"

I dunno, I see a lot more of the Alfa 8C wheel DNA in that (weak) attempt by Dodge, vs. emulating phone dials.

I think the true beauty of the phone dial lies in the raised areas around the hole and the slightly ovoid look too.... Anyone can lay a piece of metal down and cut circles in them (Strosek)...but it loses something when compared to the true phone dial. Heck..even the 15" AT phone dials aren't as nice as the 16's.... IMHO....

I hope that the new design will carry forward the 16" phone dial look.....and hope that making it 18" or 19" won't affect the overall look..

Herein lies the problem. The deep shape around the ovoid is what is hanging up the current design. And I agree with Tom, it is key to the look.

I really have no desire to make a new design, because my personal interest is really only in the old design "scaled up" to a larger wheel.
Aside from my personal interest, my bet is on folks wanting the same.

If someone sketches up with a new design which has merit, and may work with existing forgings, I may model it up for you. You know where to find me.

Default Phone Dial project update

Just wanted to reinvigorate this thread since the project has new legs.

The design is nearing completion and we're preparing to release the wheel for prototyping.
If all goes well, I may bring a sample to show at the 928 Frenzy in October!

Current specs on the wheels are:

Front - 18" x 9 ET65 (may increase)
Rear - 18" x 10 ET65

Modular 3-piece construction w/backside concealed hardware

6061 Aluminum, Forged

Note: specs are subject to change as needed

We're very excited about this project and have alot of momentum going right now. Stay tuned!
