Phone Dial Design Project - Modern 18" 3-piece forged (Kickstarter launched, see post

Starting with a 16" Phonedial (Thanks Tass!), going to model in CAD, then possibly develop into an 17"/18" w/modern offsets.

Unless someone has $100K floating around, this will most likely be a short-run or "as needed" one-off type project.

*****Design in final stage, nearing release for prototype*******

928 Classics is pleased and excited to launch on Kickstarter, Project Dial - Reviving a Classic!

Due to the excellent response and support from our 928 community as seen here,

:jumper:Please, someone send Jim a rim.

Tom. M 12-21-2010 02:39 PM

Doooooooo Eeeeeeet!!!! :D :D :D

Jadz928 12-21-2010 02:49 PM

Yea, all I really need is a complete front quadrant (none of the back part of the rim).

So, if you have a spare phonie, and are handy with a sawzall.... ;)

fbarnhill 12-21-2010 04:42 PM

Jim,
How soon do you need it and for how long. Sometime early in the new year I want to drive up there and visit Charlie. Is it something you can get done during a visit?

Thanks,

Jadz928 12-21-2010 04:58 PM

Frank,
Sooner the better, but to determined plan at this point.
Need it for a month or two.
I can drive it back to you when finished.

Are you gonna get some 17's or 18's bid?

Tass 928 12-22-2010 06:46 AM

Jadz928 12-22-2010 08:00 AM

Erik,
Too soon to tell. Ideally, 18's. But I'm not sure if the design can be "stretched" or "scaled" that much and still stay true to original form. We'll see.

I can tell you this much, unless I find a serious investor, the wheels will cost some serious coin. And I won't make a dime (not that I'm trying to anyway). Just havin' fun right now. :)

I'll update this thread whe the project gain some traction.

Jadz928 12-22-2010 08:26 AM

So then next question is....

Does anyone have access to a 3D scanner?

If so, would you be interested in scanning a portion of a phonedial wheel?

It's not 100% necessary, but would save me a ton of time and ensure a higher level of accuracy.

Jadz928 12-24-2010 03:51 PM

UPDATE: Found 3D scan, looking for DFW local phonie to borrow

This nice fella, Josh has offered up his skills and services to do the scanning!
I can't tell you how appreciative of this... thanks man!! :)

Josh is located in the DFW area. Any of you guys have a phonie he could borrow??

Let me know, thanks!

Jim

Jim,
I have a set of 16" waiting to fit my new to me 78.
Roger

Jadz928 12-24-2010 05:50 PM

Roger, Thanks! :)
I'll ask Josh to make contact with you to see if your timing works.
He's probably reading this...

You guys are AWESOME!
