Jerry, it's a great thing you're doing for the worldwide 928 community! You have our well wishes and thoughts for the success of this project. Don't get too discouraged (easy to say sitting in my computer chair down here in Australia) we know this is driving you crackers! ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
All the best!

I think James misposted his success with the New Cowl Cover in this thread about the New Rear WW Liner project, when it might better have been posted in the other thread.
These WW liners have been "COMING SOON" for way too long, I know, but I can only do what I can do. Since I got home from OCIC I have not been able even to get the GTS4 out of the trailer because of rain and mud when I have the time and because I was aflicted with something in my gut that hurt a lot and limited my mobility. I have been able only to work on a couple of smaller projects and to ship a few items that have been ordered lateley.
So, I am still progressing on the liners. The first to be completed are going to be the GTS liners and then with not too much adjustment in the outer form I will try to be producing the other version of the liners that will fit, I think, all of the earlier cars. As to those before the S4 I am not too sure about the mounting brackets since I don't have any of those around here to see just how they might mount; but I do intend to have this project extend to to point of having Rear Wheel Well Liners for all versions of the 928, at least the factory versions. Maybe I will have to just buy myself some of the earlier cars so I can have them for fitting.
One thing that kind of concerns me is just how I might be able to accomodate these liners to modified 928s. In particular there are the ones with various wide body conversions; and then there are the ones that have been "rolled" with a baseball bat or such or even something more sophisticated that apparently is available to borrow with which to destroy your nice car.
I appreciate all of the interest in this project, and the encouragement. I will keep doing my best to "get-er-done."

I don't think you should worry about modified cars at this point. People who modify their cars are well aware that some parts might not fit afterwards, and require modifications as well.
I'm glad you are getting closer to making GTS liners; I think you'll have a larger market with the S4/GT liners, though.

Hi Nicole. Nice to hear from you, and nice to have your input. I think you are probablly right on all points.
We all missed you at OCIC in Wichita. Are you going to be able to make Sharktoberfest? I hope to be there.

Hi Jerry: I was not able to attend OCIC, as I had my plate more than full lately.
Unfortunately, I don't see that change much in the coming months.
So, regarding Sharktoberfest, the most likely answer is "no".

Jerry,
Yes, I posted that cowl experience in the wrong damn thread... LOL! I still love it and I do look forward to the wheelwell liners also! I need them for my '94 and '95 IIRC!

Hi All. One of the odd things that I have encountered with this WW Liner project is that I have found myself so limited in my ability to identify exactly what change I need to make in the form for the outer halves each time they don't fit so as to have the next blown pair be correct. I did some clean up this weekend and even though I posted some pictures a while back about the failed halves that I have blown, I was pretty amazed at the volume of plastic that I have amassed to this point, and all of which is now going to the recycle bin. I guess that is the result of my lack of ability to see just how to make a change.
Another thing that seems to plague me is that things just don't seem to stay the same. For example, I worked pretty hard just before OCIC to try to have a set of liners that fit, but ended up with the closest one at that point being what I thought was about a quarter inch off, and only at the front. However, when I got to the convention and had some of the guys play with these and put them in my GTS4 I noticed that they were off more that I had thought. Then after I got home and could get back to this project I found that what I had done last was close only along the top for about 3 or maybe 4 of the clip-together-holes and was off in front about 3/8 inch and in the back a good 3/4 inch or so.
So two and a half weeks ago I redid the form for the outer halves to try to accomodate the changes apparently needed, then missed a whole weekend for catch up work here at the office, then double checked my observations about the changes needed and blew a pair of outer halves.
Low and behold, I got the right one to fit, although with a little more force that I was hoping for, but maybe not enough to require a change. With the force required it is a little tricky to install, but when it is clipped in the liner is loaded against the inside of the well very nicely.
I was going to try the one for the left side, but couldn't find the inner half I made last for it until after I spent most of the day cleaning up at least parts of my shop and dealing with the wasted plastic all over the place. I have much of that processed and can now see if the left side duplicates the right side and if so I can make some progress toward production on my limited scale.
When I have the left side fitting also, then I will need to get my trim guy to help me develop some patterns for the sound block material I am going to make available for these Liners. Then I'll need to work up the fabricatiion tooling for the mounting brackets for the GTS so I can make them in multiple sets, and I think I can start blowing and finishing some liners to ship. I'm going to have to send out two or three sets for some field testing first and then I'll be able to produce maybe 3 to 5 sets a week for the GTS guys.
Too, there is a possible problem of fitting the inner halves in with the sound material on them. That may require some further development of some sort, and hopefully only in the sound material itself rather that in the inner form.
Depending on how intense the GTS production gets, I hope to finalize the S4/GT versions somewhere along in here and be able to do the same with them. If there really are 500 cars and one brazillian out there to be taken care of I think it is going to take a while. I'll have to figure out a way to prioritize the need in some equitable way. I suppose that is the kind of problem I should be wishing for, but I kind of dread it. We will see how it goes.

Actually, Tom, one of the things that I did Sunday in "processing" the plastic was to trim off strips of the plastic that did not suffer much or any deformation in the forming process to save it for some of the doubling that will be required in the Liner fabrication, leaving only the smaller pieces and the wasted formed stuff to discard. And, yes, I mentioned in the first paragraph of my above post that it is going to the recycle bin. I'll take it back to the guy I bought it from and simply give it to him since the value is low and he is my friend from some time ago.
I too would hate to put this stuff in the trash.

Hi all. I have been working some each weekend on this project, but on some other porjects too. However, with the last change in the form for the outer halves I finally found that what I have is liners that fit. I would say that the right outer halves fit "good" and the left outer halves fit "ok." For some reason that I cannot explain, although the forms are almost exactly symetrical for both the inner and the outer halves, and the Car is as close to symetrical as I can tell, these liner do not seem to fit as well on each side. I think it may have to do with my system of mounting brackets.
On the other hand, I think where I am now is about 100 percent better than the Factory liners, but a little short of the 200 percent that I would like to shoot for. Then too, I am about 50 percent better than I first thought I would end up. So, I am going to start trying to set up some form of production, which will please about 500 plus a few others of you, I am sure.
I still have to refine the mounting brackets some and then develop some tools that will be needed in the field for mounting these liners, so the final holes can be located, and then do a little field testing to see just how well these might be mounted in the field by someone other than me. That is going to be a challenge.
I also have to work up the pattern for the sound blocking material that I plan to offer, and then see if these liners will still fit with that stuff installed. That may very well open up another whole set of fitting issues.
In any case I hope to have about five sets of these in the field before Thanksgiving for field testing, and then, with some more space retrieval in my shop I'll try to start some production which I expect will be no more than about 4 or 5 sets per week. And that will be on the weeks that I can devote the time to this project.
I may try to bring what I have so far to Sharktoberfest, so if you are there look me up and I'll show you what I have going on.
I am also taking some of my other finished project material, so bring some money with you and look my stuff over for your 928.

Jerry, looking forward to meeting you and checking the liners out on Saturday.
