Of course my camera battery died in the last two sessions, including the mock race..... This is a few good laps from Fridays open test in the fog....I managed 2 seconds off my personal best....pretty good considering how cold everything was....
Whats even more interesting about the Estate......in just over 5 hours on track over 3 days it burned precisely 1 qt of oil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By far the best ever......then I figured out the fuel economy.....it burned 30 gallons of gas....or only 6 gallons per hour!!!! Also its best ever..but we did do a few hours of low rpm-throttle stuff too..... I think the 6 gallons per hour ends up around 11mpg....better than the Spec Miati!!!

Sorry for the late post...
Got home late last night..... no not that! Driving home
Great Weekend!!!
Coaching was great!
Great Partners!
You guys were so worried about scratching my car..
Mark was conducting maneuvers in front, back and at times, making "room" from the others. Diving in and out and around the slower groups.
We were definitely the "bad" boys in the group.
Pushed out the other instructor, bullying the students out of formation.
good stuff.
Doing our own practice sessions, blowing the checkered flag
Sean, thank you for the temp "room for rent" at the track.
Brian, thanks for the fun track "games"
Mark, thanks for the coaching and the "push" to get better.
AND, thanks for the support from the 928'ers that gave up their time and came to spectate!!

Ya..I thought I edited that post..that I knew that..wasnt comparing one to other.
My bad.
I was hitting 3rd gear limiter at 111, but the lift to settle the front and then turn, pulls it down a few.

107 mph on street tires in 8 is VERY fast....I was hitting about 90mph on street tires and have seen 105mph on R comps.... Kibort typically is 100mph-ish in that corner....in the last Lemons race the Estate was pulling about 1.2g on the same tires
I would say 5 is worse....being the 928 in the "middle" at say 25 mph in that corner is FREAKY.....3 6ft+ wide cars is much harder than 3 miata's

if I had a GOOD dry, really dry...track, I could pull 115 or so out of it by taking the chance to upshift to 4th about 200yds before T8..but I would lose any time gained by the brake/shift/engage step going into T9..and staying in 3rd for T9 is a LOT smoother that way. Its a steep hill to T9, and the 8 doesnt have a boatload of available power to accelerate up it. I get about 2 seconds of 9500rpm limiter...which is NOT far from the peak powerband..as you can see in my dyno sheet.
And the faster I get headed for T8, I add more inches INSIDE the apex of 8..literally in the dirt, that I initially aim for..I accept the push I'll get and use it. It all works out until I get the faintest complaint out of the rear of the car. I can feather the gas to rotate the 8 safely quite a bit..but not once I start hearing it do so. Thats how I take T2 at warp..I go in hot and VERY too fast initially, and once it starts to push, I start to feather lift out of it, and it brings the car still at pretty much WOT, into the line where im half over the white line on the left at the big brown weed that comes OVER the edge of the track, which at OUR event was a perfect place to then let it push even more..to the exit apex. T2 and T9 are great places for momentum cars to catch larger bait with an abundance of power..because using much of it can be unsettling to them, I just keep a full head of steam and rock on.
Next event..the weed will likely be gone..but something else will be there...
Of course, Ive NEVER done this, but on a saturday night track walk, ive NEVER moved the big rock/clod of dirt/etc that was otherwise a good aiming point a few feet in some direction to change the detailed view of the blind entry over T9 for the early morning race the next day. Never...neeeever have I ever done this.
God I miss racing
God I dont miss the cost and hassle
