I've purchase two 928s which I found via ebay, but purchased offline (one sight unseen).
I don't think I paid much attention to what the add said.
And I did my due dilligence offline. I messed up on one of them ('84 Euro) when later found a mileage discrepency. That's my bad because it was right in front of me.
The ebay angle doesn't hold any weight with me.[/QUOTE]

It may prevent him. To assume otherwise would mean you know Kevin personally, or quite possibly better than he knows himself?

Dude, the OP said he likes (beginning to love) the car. Reads to me like he wants to keep it.

So your answer is YES warn Rennlisters that it is buyer beware even from a fellow Rennlister.

OP-"I would be more than satisfied if the seller who I know is available and getting my calls would just return one so I could ask him a few questions that would make my job easier"

Maybe the buyer could email his questions and then Kevin can answer when he feels better.

I bought a bad one and a good one, both off E-Bay. No one to blame but myself for the bad one, sometimes experience costs real money.

Buying a used car should always include a visual inspection and a PPI if you don't really know the car. This is the only way to be certain that your expections are lined up with the sellers description of the car.

There are some huge variations in what people consider an immaculate car even on this forum. I'm as picky as they get and I personally would trust a Rennlister but would also inspect the car fully. I would also ask for very specific pictures to be certain of condition before spending my time to fly out and look at it.

My car sold on ebay a few weeks ago but I have told the buyer that I would wait for him to come and view it in person before completing the transaction to insure that his expectations line up with my description.

Either way good luck, you have a nice example and you only need to work out a few kinks.

I can't speak to you buying the wrong car, but you did come to the wrong place to complain about it.

Seeing that the OP inspected the car in person before money changed hands, he doesn't really have any reason to complain.

I have made some bad deals over the years, heck if I knew what I know now I probably would have been more particular when I bought my 928. Should have the ad been a bit more realistic, sure, but if you can't believe everything someone tells you when you buy a used car, even a Rennlister. To him the car was his baby and he put a lot of time and money into it, in his eyes it was a flawless piece. Someone else may have a different opinion.

This thread is starting to polarize some of its participants,
and some observers are now starting to attack others .
Tossing names at each other wont bring harmony to this, IMHO.

LGL, face it you got a great car, you wont see another one like it,
The issues you mention are minor,
A follow up thread about how nice the car is and how well it drives should soon follow this, along with the requisite photos.

It is unfortunate that there are some fixes that need to be taken care of,
but in the end you will appreciate doing them as it will give you a chance to bond with your new machine.

Sorry to bag on your buddy Esprit, but the fact is IF the OP's claims are accurate, then the seller was NOT honest about the condition of the vehicle. His ad ironically claims all the systems which ended up being inop or partially inop were problem free...that is accept the odometer. He slyly avoids mentioning that the numbers indicated by the odometer never change.

The buyer in this situation is as much to blame for the disconnect. It is risky to believe anything a person tells you about the condition of a car...even if they are a "Renlister" of course being a "Renlister" does seem to rank a particular 928 owner above the fray. I think the seller took advantage of this to a degree.

I've spent many hours here, learning about what I think is one of the most enigmatic cars ever produced...and will continue to do so. Your arrogance is astonishing and your demand that I "find another Porsche varient (variant) for your interest" is pathetic.

My apologies to the rest of the board for the mess....

Rennlister, bud.

LGL, would you say you've got all the "advice" you need?
Is it possible this thread has ran it course?
It may be time for one last followup post to close this one out.
You've been rather quiet, though started a pretty hot topic.
What do you say OP?

So here my "Jerry Springer style closing statement"...

I've read in many other FS threads, comments like "Rennlister owned" or "he's a Rennlister so you know it's good".
Please don't assume that buying from RL precludes you from doing your homework.
This is a diverse community just like any other, and expectations definitions, and opionions differ just like any other.
We are all here under a common enthusiam and love for the 928.
I believe this connection affords us a certain level of respect in each other. Let not loose this respect, because this is some we greatly value.

That is a bunch of wisdom right there.

How so very strange that some complete strangers to the situation seem more offended by it then the OP himself.

Stranger still that a non member, a guest, would come here, with high moral grounds and set us all straight on the situation. How brilliant you are, that you can pass judgement on someone you don't know, about a situation you know so little about.

It's easy to hit someone when he's already down, especially when you have nothing worthwhile to contribute.
