Big black wire from +12V battery terminal to the starter, then the big red wire from the starter thru the FOE harness to the 14 pin connector at the jump post.

Both wires on the big terminal of the starter.

Cool thanks. I thought so but wasn't sure.

Now to figure out why there is no spark. I'm pretty sure it's getting gas. I can smell it (it's not overwhelming like a leak, but its there), and the first time I tried to start it I found a fitting on the fuel rail I forgot to tighten. Engine ground is connected. I'm only 50% sure the cam timing is right. It's hard to tell. Every other time I look at it it's off. I assume the crankshaft turns twice for every one turn of the cams, is that accurate? I've went through the WSM a dozen times, I can't find anything I forgot. I'll have more time to look at it this weekend. Any suggestions?

Did you double-check that the balancer went on right way around? If that's correct then go through the procedure I linked above. It covers everything else. Oh, and quit yelling.

Thanks Dave. I assume you mean the orange disc with t/o on it? If so, then yes it is on correct. Never thought about that though.

You know this really happens! Putting the balancer with t/o on backwards! The PO of my car did so. The timing must have been approx 30 degress off. Engine ran fine and started right away! Amazing!

Yes, the balancer in the picture (shamelessly stolen from one of Dwyane's writeups cuz all the parts are clean) is installed correctly.

Time to flip it over and double check your timing again.

Fixed it for ya...

Also, now might be a good time to double-check rotor position on the cam, etc.

Man, don't sweat it, this is more common than you realize. And morons don't learn... look how much you've assimilated in the last week. Hang in there, you're gonna love it when it's right.

+1, Congrats Erik! Not too many enthusiasts can pop their hood and say, 'Yeah, I pulled this motor and made it run again'.

Thanks guys!! I agree. You dont learn anything without doing anything. Like I've said before, we learn from our mistakes and Einstien ain't got **** on me. And yes, I have learned a lot over the last few weeks.

Well now its running, I wouldn't say purring, but running non the less. Kinda sounds like its running on 7 cylinders at idle, but sounds good at higher RPMs. Pretty sure I did the timing light right. I'll have to do a little research on that.

Also, I have to pull the thermostat housing to replace an O ring. Found another leak I was looking for. Wish I had done that when I had everything off, but it looks doable. I'll get that done tomorrow. Time to celebrate for now.
