Used cores - machine to remove the old gear teeth, then press in a new gear tooth ring.
Wonder if new composite polymers are up to the task? Probably not up to the heat degradation.
Just thinking out loud...

Whats the closest standard production gear, then maybe modify the area that couples to the cam?
Are there any obvious improvements that could be made to the original design?
conversion to pushrods?

Just to understand the mkt a bit better, what sort of interval (roughly) do the cam gears get changed? I have 69k on my car, and my gears looked fine - opted not to change...hope I don't regret it.

How about giving Lindsay Racing a call, if you are going to make some from scratch, might as well make them adjustable:

I've already talked to them and they are interested. I just need to get them a set of 928 gears to run a sample / quote.

Looks like an opportunity for the gifted in the community to sort out a solution. Just changed mine. I kept the cores in case they are needed. I can donate them for testing purposes if need be since I'm useless otherwise. As for the question about wear. I had 159,000 on mine and they had never been changed according to the extensive history. in the last 40,000 miles the PO started neglecting tension and my trip across country with improper tension probably led to an early demise.

Yes. Once they get through the anodized coating, the shape of the gear itself is quickly changed. Tough to find gears worth re-coating.

Greg, is there any reason to have to replicate the stock gear? Could it be done in steel or would that kill the timing belt? To much strain on the cam journals if made with heavier material?
Seems like if we could avoid the anodizing process it would be a significant cost saver.
