Off the top of his head, for one gear it may cost $300
of course the price will go down with a bulk run of gears.

I will talk to him friday about the difference in metal that can be used and the difference in cost.

Brad,
Could you ask him what he thinks the cost would be on Ti vs. steel and what he thinks the wear vs steel would be?

Thanks for helping Roger and us!

If someone can post some representative photos, and perhaps some fairly accurate specifications on the gear/sprocket, as in width and diameter, etc., I'll go over to www.practicalmachinist.com and post a thread on the subject. At the very least we'll get a bunch of feedback.

By the way, one of the guys I know is a nationally renowned antique race car restorer. We're talking million dollar cars. He recently remanufactured an engine block, reverse engineering the original flaws and all.

They should be checked any time you have the covers of enough to see them, and they should be checked all the way around.
I have seen them look great on the part you can see, then turn the engine a little and you can see a lot of wear.

3) Feel them for rough points. If they edges are sharplike, they' will kill the belt eventually. Visual inspections work pretty well (if it looks off, it probably is). Shiny points indicate the coating is going and it will need replacement soon.

You're gear is a different gear though (square tooth). Its been NLA for longer. Currently your only option is to buy a used one.
I was looking at ways to get these produced, but have gotten very busy recently. I'll get back to looking at that in the future. They've got a very odd profile tooth relative to other gears.
Thanks. I'll have them looked at next time the covers are off.

I checked on 928 specialists and saw it available for MY. Usually "used" is described as such so I assumed they are "new". 928.105.545.04 is the correct part, right?

The cam gears are a long way from the Water pump, no need to remove the WP to do the cam gears.

Finding companies to make them is very easy. Already done that.
Also have quotes that make the whole process very interesting and viable.
We will have alternatives very soon.
Looking at fine tuning the design and playing with other ideas.

You caught me there - I was thinking crank gear.

Sweet928: Cam gears may still be available. I was thinking crank gear (which is NLA). Oil pump gear is also still available (though maybe not for long).

I sent a query to Jeff at Sunset Porsche about our cam gear plight a while back, and got this response today:

There is a new part number now for them. 92810553001 is discontinued, now use 92810553004 with a complimentary price bump to 405.00 retail and 291.51 your price, cost plus 15% as we always do. There are 4 in the US, 161 in Germany.

Porsche will change p/n's either because there is a physical change or update to the part, or to change the price. But we get many monthly updated price changes both up and down where the p/n's aren't changed on us. So I wonder why the p/n change for a part that probably doesn't need to be updated? Hard to say, but good news is we can still get you OEM gears.
So there are plenty available under a new number, they're just really expensive.

92810553004 is still available according to the Porsche website. No idea if they are indeed when ordered. And yeah, they are expensive..

Jeff's e-mail included a screenshot of the POLARIS (whatever that is) inventory system from today, showing 161 in Germany. I'd assume that's accurate, but perhaps I assume too much.

What is "new" about the new part number?
