Please read my post #9 and my post #27.
I think we might be on the same path....
Do we need to talk, or are you cool with this?

That is very close to the whistle someone blew from my old 'home'. A lot of production machines have been sorted out and some suppliers as well.
By law, each car manufacturer has to provide parts up to 15 years after end of production. After that, its just a gesture of goodwill whether they'll continue or not. Now more than ever it becomes an economical decision. And there aren't that much 928 left that it makes sense for the company to keep some workers busy only for some minor parts... The prices of some parts are on the way up because of the limited availability.
Of course, that won't be a problem for those parts which you can get as OEM nor for everything you can easily take used from a donor car. However, the prices as well as the number of requests I listen for genuine engine parts are on the way up.

I have seen parts for some, like the SHO go NLA after as little as four years on things that need replacing, like power steering hoses.

The issue in Oz was so bad a couple of decades or so ago that legislation was passed to require parts availability for SEVEN YEARS on new cars sold in Australia.
You would think that would solve it, but not so. My neighbour worked for Nissan, and his ONLY job was to destroy the parts that were 7 years old. As in "drive the forklift over those panels", 'hit those plastic and glass parts with a hammer", "pour acid on those metal parts".
Apparently the company wilfully destroyed the parts and then claimed the (inflated) value of them as a tax deduction.

I have a number of quotes which will allow me to sell at about $125 a cam gear.
Just had a meeting with my "expert" where we discussed the issues of machining from solid billet v forged and came up with a number of mods to make the whole thing bullet proof.
Should be in production shortly.

I talked with a friend of mine who owns a CNC shop here in OZand he couldn't get near that price in steel by a long way. In Alu with a big enough production run he may come close ish but excluding the add on cost of coating after machining. Likely looking at about $500+ for a one off gear.

The price has gone from $50 to $85 since then, too. Supply and demand in action.
I just dug up a couple of lightly used ones (I looked at them and they appeared to be in very good shape, so they are officially "used inspected" ) during a basement cleanup over the weekend. Hmmm...

When I posted that a couple of days ago, that "used inspected" part wasn't included in the description.

I also ordered from DC. I chased them up to see if they really had any...said they were shipping, but asked why they had 5 orders all on the same day. Then they said they found this thread and understood what was going on. I printed out the order confirmation at work, but I dont recall the bit about used being present. Will have to see what turns up...
here is a quote from their response..
"...I did find the thread on rennlist, I figured they had dried up new. "
jp 83 Euro S AT 53k, going Porken adjustable timing.
