Today, 3/19/11 I finally got to install my new switch. I had a grueling tax season and all Corps are done and gone. So I took some time out from personal returns and put the new switch in. I admit, I had to read the manual a few times as my brain is still mush. The hardest part was placing the modules. It was a real plug and play. I did have to move #5 pin down to get the windoes to function. I got the blue lighting witch matches the blue car. Thanks again it is so nice now without those crappy switches that I got from 928 Intl. Buy the way, they still owe me a credit from the switches I returned that they refuse to give me. I will not buy anything from them again.

Just starting to install my switches. I did a trial hookup of just the windows (sunroof and wipers not yet connected), but I don't see any 12v power at any of the 4 pins on the passenger (right) side window connector-with our without the ignition in the ACC position. I reconnected the red lead from the 530T module's heavy gauge harness to a constant source of 12v, and they windows work fine. I'd rather not have the windows powered on all the time, so where should I pick up the switched 12V?

I know that it was buried far away now, but here it is:

The latest update to the installation guide:

SwitchPanelInstallation

I'm sure this will help answer your questions. If not, drop us an email.

Thanks

After five revisions, the new version of the window control board is moving into the final prototyping phases, and should be in production by the end of the month. This board standardizes the harness for all models between 1977 and 1989, no matter what button or equipment configuration. The board will drive the windows, sunroof, rear wiper, and the bonus button directly, supplying up to 25a. So, for the first time, our switches will now be usable as a stock replacement item (functioning as normal without the one-touch functionality, but retaining all the benefits of modern construction, illumination, and the bonus button).

For those wishing the one-touch functionality, the new board easily integrates with the DEI 530T module. Because of the modularity of the new harness, the standard version can be ordered and then upgraded to one-touch at a later date with no special tools or soldering (standard crimper and 0.25" spade terminals are all that is required). The new harness/module also replaces the function of the DEI 529T from the first generation kits.

It is possible to add one-touch functionality to the sunroof with the addition of a second 530t module (however do to the motor brush noise monitoring system of the 530t, the sunroof must be excellent operating condition, with well maintained tracks and proper alignment).

The new module also has a set of dip-switches to selectively add and remove each window and the sunroof to an "express" button. This will allow any combination of simultaneous opening/closing with a dedicated physical button.

While there are many upgrades in the new harness, they are more for Paul, Myself, and potential retail partners. They have reduced the number of variations for stock and manufacturing down to a single unit. On the functional side, there are no additions to the new harness which obsolete the first generation kits. The only difference to the customer, is the inclusion of the relay coupled output for the bonus button. However, if a previous customer would like one of the new versions of the harness, we will work with them to exchange the original version at a discounted rate.

The kit cost will increase with the addition of the new module, but the 529t is no longer required so the costs will practically offset each other. Also, after the first batch of switches where i discounted the plug-and-play harnesses substantially (pretty much charged just enough to cover materials), there was a planned price increase on the harnesses for the original version, which will now be absorbed into the increase in kit price going towards the components in the new module.

We will be able to provide revised pricing by the end of the week. I am still waiting on manufacturing quotes for the new boards, but should have those figures by tomorrow.

Thanks,
Hans

Hans,
Interesting news!

Is this proprietary module physically integrated or seperate from the switch module?

May the bonus button function as "one-touch express down"?

I will post some board layout shots tomorrow, with some descriptions and more detailed explanation. This unit can not do one-touch on it's own - it must be coupled with a DEI 530t for that. It does support making the bonus button an "express" button, simulating pressing any or all window/sunroof switches at the same time. This feature is carried over to one-touch, so you could tap a single button, and open or close everything with a single tap.

Thanks
Hans

As promised, here is what the new board will look like. This PDF is to scale, so if you are really curious, you can print it to see what the actual size is.

Features worth pointing out:
  • P1 is a jumper block, allowing us to install wire jumpers or shunts to create any configuration of outputs with a single standard harness.
  • SW1 is a dipswitch that allows configuration of simultaneous actuation of the windows and sunroof in either direction with a dedicated button (can use the bonus button, or any spare button if you have wiper or sunroof delete.)
  • There is now a trimpot on the board to allow some degree of tuning for the LEDs, this will be set prior to shipping, but will allow for the proper value to be set for any number of different LED colors, or running multiple LEDs in parallel for a secondary illumination source.
  • Conn1-Conn11 are male 0.25" spade terminals, allowing for use of any standard female spade or Faston type terminals.
  • Conn9 is input for +12v, this can now be used as either switched or constant (if you would like the windows to work when the key is removed from the ignition) because of the following feature.
  • Conn11 is a secondary illumination input. This input can be used in conjunction with, or instead of the +12v input from Conn9. This allows the user to tie in with the courtesy lights in addition to the switched +12v so the window switches will illuminate when the doors are open, or it allows the user to wire in a switched +12v source when constant +12v is supplied to Conn9 so the illumination will go out even though the switches are still live. Both channels are diode isolated for dual illumination triggers, and there is a removable shunt for the bypass mode when Conn9 is supplied constant +12v.
  • Conn8 is the "Bonus Button" output, and it is now relay-coupled and capable of supplying upto 25a.
  • Conn7 is for the rear wiper, and also provides up to 25a of output - it can trigger the wiper relay directly, or in wiper delete cars, can be used as a secondary bonus function.
  • Conn3 and 4 are for the sunroof, but in sunroof delete cars, they are usable as bonus channels, again supporting upto 25a of output.
As a general disclaimer, the board and relays are rated at 25a, but it is not advisable to use several heavy loads simultaneously, ie if you had a wiper and sunroof delete car, you could not have four separate 25a loads connected to each of the spare outputs and use them all at the same time... its common sense, but had to be said.

Also, to reiterate, this board will work standalone without any additional modules, but is more of a stock replacement part - it will roll up and down the windows and sunroof, but does not have any one-touch functionality built-in. If you want one-touch, a DEI 530t is still needed. Similarly, all the outputs on this board are momentary. If you want a timed output, say to hold the PKD switch for a specific time, or if you want a flip-flop switch, a DEI 611T is still recommended.

Thanks,
Hans

The new window switch boards just came in!!!

Of course its one of the days I left my good iron at home, so will have to wait till tonight to get it assembled. Here are some mock-up pictures though, with the components all sitting in place. Overall size is 85x64mm (3.35x2.51") so pretty compact. To help give some scale to the board, the connectors along the back edge are all 0.25" male blade terminals that you are all familiar with. This will allow customers to easily make their own harnesses with parts available at their FLAPS or local electronic supply house. We will of course till be offering plug and play harnesses as well.

I hope to test the board out this evening. Here is hoping that everything works as designed.

Thanks
Hans

Thanks Jim. The DO NOT ADJUST was one of my favorite elements too. Doubt it will work, it will sure make me feel better when I give people flack for burning up LEDs.
