P, Sounds great. The new Crystalline product line from 3M really works superb, especially for the lighter green-blue colors. It helps keep the green tint already in the OEM glass to match up better with these green-blue colors primarily because it does not need to be as dark as yesterday films were to be just as effective, re: UV sunblocking ability to help protect you along with your cars interior. Green-blue colors do not look as good with a darker tint as lets say, black or grey cars do. An old friend of mine is a Mfg rep for 3M and he keeps me up to speed on whats out there now, and what new products that will be coming our way just around the corner. T

T, I can't wait to see the Crystalline install and get your thoughts on it after you have lived with it through a summer... Sounds almost to good to be true! Could use that in a few of my cars!

Paul is right on his take on the 3M process. Ends up on the inside. Only (minor) issue is that you shouldn't use windex on your front window inside anymore! Have to use a special 3M cleaning spray.
Happy with it so far

Paul said you can tint the inside of the windshield with the lighter Crystalline tint. The only problem I foresee is that if you get a little chip in your windshield, take it to place to fix it, they will have to cut a small hole on the inside of the windshield for the repair. This will not look so good. You can replace the windshield and film it again, but that does get a little pricey $$$. T

Thats those new brakes.
Stop to fast wife head smacks and cracks windshield.
Your repairs need to start on the inside.

Chipped
J, Maybe with a track car, you might not be quite as fussy as with your street car. You can use the Permatex chip repair (about $ 12.00) for a quick, effective cheap fix. It should prevent your windshield from cracking any further, and you can DIY it pretty fast at the track. It's applied on the outside of the shield and will cure in the sun fairly quickly, and you will not lose that valuable track day. I feel this quick process for your street ride will not look as good finished. I went with my local glass shop, and they needed to heat the resin from the inside with a lighter about halfway through the job to expand the resin into the damaged area for a better seal. I would say that should make your new windshield tint look quite crispy. Cost was $ 25 and it took them 1/2 hour to do. Have it done on a sunny day so that the UV rays can cure the resin el-pronto. I let the glass pro's do the 3 seperate incidents I've had on my P-up truck, and it cost me a total of $ 75 for all three. So for an extra lets say $ 13.00 per visit, It looked a lot better, I didn't have small shards of glass imbededed in my fingers, did not have to peform the work myself, and they guranteed the work performed. I 'll take it to the pro every time for my street ride for the little extra that it costs. T

Da Roof
Sunroof deleted. Galvanized steel cut to size to fill the hole just vacated, tack welded and primed. Long block sanded then primed again, this time with black primer to show the low spots. Larry perfomed the mig welding, and did a marvelous job tacking it all around not bringing in to much heat that could have created warpage. A little more block sanding and the whole car is off to paint. The new, smooth roofline really looks fantastic, and also provides me (6'3") with that extra headroom I was looking for. T

That looks like a cheaper option than buying a non sunroof roof from Porsche and having it installed.
Not bad at all there.

The interior shot of the roof still has those two vertical slats that were part of the sunroof cassette. Are they staying? If so doesn't that wipe out any headroom gains? I'm probably just missing something obvious here...
A new roof panel from Porsche is $295. How much more labor would it have been to drill out the entire roof panel, a la https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...n-sunroof.html

All I know is this. When I sit in the car now, I have at least 2" more headroom clearance and my hair does not come close to touching the new inner roof. To drill out the entire panel and order the roof from Porsche ?$ I saw Larry's 4" chopped roof on his 1973 Blown Trans Am, and it looked perfect, so I said: "Go for it". Also saved some $ and weight in the process. T

Not in February 2010 it wasn't. 928 503 501 03 GRV, $292.42. Got one sitting in the shed, waiting to get up the courage to cut the roof out of a perfectly good car.
Definitely saves weight up high, the sunroof cassette is heavy!

You will have to get rid of the lower portions of where the sunroof went, otherwise there won't be any advantage with the head liner installed.
