Default Tint

Time to start thinking about tint. Choosing from the 3M Crystalline Film line. Happy New Year to all. T

My vote, FWIW, is for the lighter tint.

In general, I think the lighter the exterior color - the lighter the tint should be, and vice-versa. Plus, I'm not a big fan of limo tint (not that the one on the right is that dark)

Personally I never like dark tint. The original owner of my car put some really dark tints on it and it is hard to see through the rear hatch. However, it probably did help preserving the fragile interior. The biggest reason why I finally bought this 928 was the excellent interior condition. I am keeping the tint for now but I don't care for it at all.

I currentley have 3M Crystalline all around my XK8, it's fantastic in the miami weather. It's soooo going on my next 928. 928 look best witout tints.. That fantastic interior should be shown off, but also protected.

That's the beauty of 3M Crystalline, it can be light and still perform better than most of the other.

Nice going there Tony

Blue-green, and some other lighter colors really don't look good with the older, darker, smokey colored tint's. This new 3M line of lighter, high performing tint's will help take care of that. These tint's will also help save your skin, and your valuable interior from the suns harmful UV rays. Added benefits include keeping your car cooler at all times while in the sun, especially upon re-entry, your a/c & fan will not have to work as hard, and less strain on your eyes & body while in the car. Planning on going with the medium (50) tint for the rear quarter & hatch, and then one step lighter (60) for the doors. T

<<<Ummm.... right.

How does it work as a deterrent to smash-n-grabs?

Sunlight isn't the only enemy...

BTW, looking good & Happy New Year as well !

Wink Almost there

Larry is installing new sidedraft filters in the spray booth tomorrow morning in preperation for the 928. This shop is really doing the right thing. Paint to be applied in the am, and if all goes well, it's wet clear on top of wet clear 3X, with a little sanding in between. T

Great update Tony, keep 'em coming! Think your friend will be interested in painting any more 928s after this one?

T, I am sure Larry's Paint & Body would welcome the business. Just give Larry a call at: 361-790-9822. If keeping the same color, I am sure that would save you some $ If switching out to Pink, well that might be a little more. T

Tony - Are you painting the engine bay to match the exterior of the car?

Cool Engine Bay

Dan, I actually like engine bay's in black, so after a good cleaning, that will stay. T

The pic on top was taken outside in natural light last week and appears to be have more green in it. Just depends on the kind of of light hitting it and at what angle. What a huge difference lighting can make. Intially this job was to take approx 3 weeks. After a good sit down with Larry about what was required for this job, re: deleted items, paint car apart ,super quality paint application, we knew 3 weeks was going to be out of the question. We then asked Larry to take his time and do it right, and he was in total agreement. It has now been a little over 10 weeks and is near completion. It would be great to bring this car up to the Austin gathering next week, but just might have to go in the ole pick up truck. Just don't want to rush it. Glad to hear all like the new color because the inners are being painted later this afternoon. T
Nice colour but why on earth wasn't that underhood sticker removed before painting?
