Looks like how they did the rear bumperette delete on mine.

I cry when I see that roof though. I'll take the sunroof motor and transmission, always need those extra parts

Default Door locks

A little progress today. S4 rear bumper bumperette holes filled, sanded and heading to the paint dept. Those big front door locks filled in. A little more sanding and they are also off to the paint dept. Aftermarket alarm system open the doors electronically, so no need for those big ole locks. If battery ever runs down in remotes, can still gain access through rear hatch lock. T

The way I read it it's lock and unlock remote actuation with the hatch lock as the fail safe entry with a key. I guess T will be SOL if his hatch lock craps itself in that scenario.

Word on window tint; just had my 88 redone, and spent the extra $$ for new 3M *clear* tint for the front window. Couldn't tell it was there if not for tea area open for inspection sticker, registration. Actually rated just as high as the tint at blocking damage. Not sure why clear 'tint' more expensive than colored, but since I dream of a Champagne interior one day ($$, time,) it seemed like a good investment.

Default Tint & Locks

Going with the new 3M Crystalline window film, a little darker on hatch and rear quarters to help keep contents out of plain view, and to keep the inside of the car a little cooler. Another added benefit: will not have to run the A/C fan as high because the cabin will stay cooler, less ambient noise in the cabin, sound system can be played at a little lower volume for same result. Going with a little lighter on the door glass. L-I have never seen the windshield tinted before and think that might be illegal in most states. I use a foldable, reflective sunshade that justs pops in the windshield when the car is parked. I have 2 remotes to open the car, if one fails, use the other, if that fails, use the hatch key, it that fails, pop out the rear quarter from the outside. T

Sorry for the brief hijack Tony - Left golfer, did they put the tint on the inside or outside of the windshield. I ask because when you visit the 3M site and click on one of their testimonial sites there is an offroad mag blog that puts the 3m crystalline film on a project truck. It does not specifically state but it appears they put this film on the outside.

Thanks for your feedback on this.

I have been suggesting 3M Crystalline tint to most of my clients recently. This is really amazing stuff. Backed by the American Cancer Society.
Even clear, it blocks 99% of the UV and 97% of the IR. Your interiors will remain cooler and you will save not only your leather, but your skins as well

Actually, they put the film outside to measure it and cut it to size. But the film is installed on the inside. The one hurdle is the rear view mirror button. The hole to clear it need to be cut in place.

I first thought that this was a dry installation film but apparently it is a wet install, just like most other film.

Hey Tony,
I wasn't clear in my post. I was always told to shut my car door using the lock to push the door shut as to not get finger prints on the paint or glass maybe I'm just OCD. I was curious if you carried a piece of cloth with you to shut the door or if you had another plan sorry if this comes across the wrong way.

Whatever was used, there is likely to be 'imprinting' over time as the patch (or welds or glue) expand/contract at a different rate compared with the fender.

Default Tint, etc

P: I think some of the bigger tint shops pre-cut their film from digitally stored templates. JP: I will also be installing the clear bra material inside of the door handles as not to scratch it with years of fingernail abuse! Also considering putting a thin trim piece of clear bra material on door edges. S: Aluminum cut to size and then filled in with Evercoat Metal-2-Metal, then sand. Next step-later on this thread. T

Ah, clear bra under the door handles is a good idea and makes sense. I've had only black cars for so long I forgot that other people don't have to spend as much time keeping their car looking clean.

Certainly, but in some instances, they have to shrink the film in place because of curvatures. That is done on the outside.
