Hi Jim,
Well, technically a manual tranny does have 6 speeds. :-)
BTW, haven't had time to read all the posts..are you going to keep it the Brown Pasha??
If so, I have a couple of Mint Brown Pasha Door Insert Panels from a Low Mileage 78 that I have had in my private stash(stored in the dark, no fade :-).
If interested let me know before I list them in the Clearance Page on my website this week. Can send Pics if interested.

Proof-of-concept went well. Just looking into dialing in color and process.
Thanks for the offer re the inserts!
Matter of fact, I'd just purchased a partial interior set from Germany.
And with it comes a set of inserts, to couple the ones I already have... which aren't too bad either.
Most importantly though, the lot come with a dash and armrests in great shape!
These are by far the most important pieces for me, as I need them for both my short-term and long-term plans.
The seats should get me by for the short-term, and will free up the original seats to allow time to get them done. Plus, I'll then has a spare set.
A friend near Stuttgart has graciously offered to store and help ship them. Will be looking futher into way to get the to the US.

Since you have the oldest car, you need the SWAG from 1977.

Update: Down on the Farm, Summer 2011
I had a quick couple days at the farm, following a great party at Sharks in Hell.
Picked up where we left off with an R&R of the fuel delivery system.
Installed a new fuel feed line (high pressure, mounted underside chassis), to replace a previously spliced line (with rubber & hose clamps, eek!). This was a primary leak source.
Mark Benton (The Nine Source) supplied the NLA, early VIN only, six foot line. Charles (Cpayne) hand delivered it to me from SC. I transported in onto the plane to Michigan, as a carry-on... with the final stretch to the farm in a Ford Focus!
Quite a conversation piece at the airports. I laughed out loud when the pilot handed it to me off the plane.
Made some decent progress.
Sandblaster quickly proved indespensible. Note to self, purchase a metric pipe bender/flare tool.
Ran out of time as I needed a couple more hours to install the tank, check for leaks, and pressure test the system.
Didn't want to rush it, so will have to wait unitl next year.
Talk about a convoluted setup in the rear wheel well. Fuel filter, accumulator, exp. tank, breather, & assoc. hoses.
Hard line into the top of the fuel filter, hard line out the bottom.
Makes sense to me now why Porsche later changed to more serviceable fuel filter location, near the fuel pump.
Following that, next on the list is a systematic grounds cleaning, CE panel R&R, and harness repair.
Simon (Funkysi) found serious nastiness while inspecting the 14pin connector.
Thanks for stopping by! Enjoyed our visit. Particularly memorable is when you though #6's gas tank cradle was a chair. Man, were you tired!
Thanks Nick (#6 Assistant) and Dad for your perserverance, and putting up with my BS.

Nice! We'll be seeing it Frenzy, no?
Why do images from Snakes On A Plane pop into my head?
Also, why does your expression in the second picture (bead blaster) remind me of our pediatrician during the birth of my second child??

When you are finishing the tank - do not forget to change the tank screen. It threads into the tank. When the screen gets old it can frangment - there is nothing between the tank and filter so the fragments get embedded in the fuel pump. There is generally no way to clear it.
I have found on the early cars the bracket that holds the top of the tank can rust out. The older style surrounds the neck of the tank. On later models there is an aluminum piece embedded into the tank that fastens with a cap screw to the body. The bracket for the new style tank can be drilled off a donor car and riveted to the body. We did this on Erik's car.
Sure looks like a nice project

Pics show removable pipe coming up from tank to top of fender level. On some early cars there is pipe welded directly to body in its place. On some cars there is also second full size external fuel pump in same area. Any signs of this in body? Is there for example second power wire pair for fuel pump?

I can find only one fuelpump in my '78 Euro. It sits under the tank, fixed in rubber bearings in the steel cover. No pump in the tank, only fuel level sensor. I took it out because I read there probably was a fuelpump inside. Not so. What a major PITA it was to put it back in!
