I think the fight or flight reflex pumps chemicals and fires neurons from the hippotalamus as long as you don't know if you are going to fight or flee. If you waited fifteen minutes in a stand off without knowing which way it's going to go, that's likely a large overdoze. Much more so than an actual fight.
One of the cops was laughing at me, he said "I sometimes have to print to be able to read my writing when the juices are flowing" he said he understood why i was shaking so much.
What you say makes sense.
The last time i was shot at it really did not even raise my heart rate, it was what it was, unexpected and then over, no time to think, it just happened and then it was over.
I have no idea if having Uncle Mitch right there had any effect on it or not, but that made one hell of a story.

Nordschleife Master
LOVE my P7M8, but I need to find a small 9MM or 45 that will fit in my Paul Champagne arm rest or some sort of a cool holster that will go well in the door pocket...that might be best...wrong hand but easy access if you are outside the car with things start to go south!

just as there is technical preparation for a fight
extra mag
right weapon
practice
super-duper flashlights
all the kit that is being marketed to our fears
so there is mental
and I don't only mean the 'kill or be killed' mindset
I mean, is this worth dying over or killing over, it escelates fast, and is over in seconds...
sometimes you don't have the time to formulate that thought
sometimes you do...that is a 'luxury' that should be taken advantage of
I'm not judging....I don't know what led you to this point in your life, what made you 'the man you are'...just saying, it could have turned out differently and we'd be reading about what a nice guy you were before some pos killed you over a fender bender hit & run...
I carry a gun, have for >20 years, never had to use it, never chose to use it, never brandished it...
kiss ***, apologize, walk away, whatever...call it fear or common sense, I don't care...but when it is a 'real' threat to someones personal safety, I will be up front (and have been), and will have to be put down for me to stop doing what I believe to be right...
as I said, to each their own

well, as sorry as I am that this happened to you greg, better you than arthur. If it happened to him, tonight I would have reading a post about a guy who watched someone drive away after smashing his car up. Also, I would like to add that if everyone of us were the type to just watch it happen, I'd be typing this from the united states of the soviet union, that is if we weren't still a colony.

This, right here, is just ONE of the reasons why I do not carry a gun in my car. There would be some dead ***** lying in the road, and I wouldn't think not one thing about it. If they have such little regard for other people's stuff, in my world, they do not deserve even a second thought. A serious waste of skin IMHO.
I am seriously dangerous tonight. I better stay inside for the sake of mankind.

are you nuts?
you are equating what the OP did with the likes of Washington, Jefferson and the Minute Men?
that's quite a stretch
I guess I shouldn't have volunteered for the Army Airborne, being such a pacifist and all

Greg glad you are okay and the perp in jail. Why didn't you just get close enough to get the license number and description of the car then call 911 and let the cops get their man/men?
I wish I could say that I thought you did the best thing in this case but two dead friends from long ago under very similar circumstances which also sent a drunk fool who normally was a good man and father to three little ones to prison for many years. All were armed, all thought they were protecting their rights and properties. The drunk didn't even know he had hit their car. When he was chased down by my two friends who ran up with guns drawn screaming at him to get out of the car he thought he was being carjacked and shot them both dead as they were trying to drag him out of his car. Three lives ruined and the families left behind.
I truly am glad things worked for you. You were a very very lucky fellow today.

I think you and I would agree on most things along this line, we may have different ways of expressing them, but I think we are on the same page on some things.
Things change though when you are walking down a street and start taking fire, while minding your own biz.
I have never looked for a fight and never will, if it comes looking for me I will flee if I can, but I will not be personally wronged, it may be a personality flaw, but it is the way it is.

we percieve we are wronged everday by the system (obama! arabs! etc.), and just let it happen...because we can't do anything about it, only vent (hopefully) or let is fester...I think that is the root of much of societies frustration, and our desire to 'make it right', get even...

not a doubt in my mind that i am lucky, but you may also need to know that I have been in the position to legally take another life and did not, all i want it to control the situation, not kill some one over a car, or get killed over a car.
I was in a position to defend myself if needed, but I did not go in guns blazing or brandishing for that matter.
You just never know until you are in that situation what you need to to, OR WILL DO.
Like popeye said, I yam what I yam, nothing is going to change that at my age.
As far as getting the LC number and letting them go, that would have done nothing, nothing at all, trust me on that.
It would have been "Who was driving the car????"
We both know that is true.

I think you are correct
trust me, I've have had my world turn red, lol
I think we both know (when we chuck our bravado and ego aside, lol) that there is a time to run towards a fight, and a time to run from one (maybe to fight another day, or flank the bastards!)...or just not worth it...
that is what seperates the enlightened from the crazy
