I carry a Springfield XDM 40. It is nearly impossible to get a conceal carry permit in Iowa. I had to justify my reasons with a one hour interview with the Sheriff after taking the 18 hour safety course. 9 hours classroom, 9 hours and 300 rounds of qualifying shooting. Also had to take the police, shoot/no shoot electronic course and pass that. If you even mention to the Sheriff that you want your permit for your constitutional right it is an automatic denial. Our county is a "May Issue" county. Total personal discretion of the Sheriff. January 1 it becomes a "Shall Issue" county. Only denied for felony or other serious background offenses.

It is more of a constant companion for me, I have carried this one for 20+ years, some to the best Gun Smiths in the world have worked on it for me, Wayne Novack, The late, Great, Art Leickie, Jack Mitchell, and a couple that nobody have ever heard of, Bob Simms and Greg nettles.

I have no idea how many rounds i have put through it, but over 100,000, enough to go through many triggers and one barrel and a few other parts.

it is made from two guns, a stainless lower and a blue steel upper, very few places does it have steel on steel or stainless on stainless, cause it is a carry gun that stays next to my body in the heat and sweat.

I am glad I did not need it today, but they ran, they should have stopped and they went to jail for it, as it should be.
I got to go home and drink beer.

It could have turned out different if i did not have a way to manage three of them, we will never know I guess.

Glad you are okay... parts (car parts that is) are replaceable!

Got to see your 1911 at SITM and it does make a statement.... a profound statement indeed.

If only it were that easy in New York...oh wait-it's impossible...

Kind of scary now that I think about it.

I did have my gun in my hand, but it was behind me so they could not see it, there were three of them and I had not idea what they had in mind.

Thank god I live in a state that trusts me enough to arm myself or this may have ended very differently.
That's some story. I don't think one can buy a drug that gives an adrenaline rush like what you just had.

Logically, adding up the risk and return, one should just let them drive away. I know I would be unable to think about it logically, instead I would have chased them as well. Unarmed.

I am sure that after the fact you have thought about the possiblity that they had a shotgun and a couple of semiautomatics with them in the car.

You've never met Greg,
During the chase he was hoping they had a shotgun and a couple of semiautomatics.

You know that movie scene where a row of bad guys with machine guns gets taken out one at a time by the suave British dude with a hand gun?

Replace suave British due with one of the "locals" from Deliverance for this version

I got ran off of the road by a senior driver years ago. He was driving a shuttle bus for the senior center. I was in my 81' 928 and ended up plowing into one of those big, orange, men working signs that was on the shoulder of the road. Dented my fender and ripped the passanger side door mirror off the car. I followed him for five miles before he finally stopped. Of course he says he never even saw me. I had a passanger in the car as a witness and eventually got it handled by his employers ins. co.

We were talking about that tonight, it generated a lot more adrenaline than when I have been shot at, and I am not sure why.

I was still shaking 2 hours later, strange.
