i still would cut out that entire license plate section . it will still be pressurized , i imagine, even though the diffuser area is blocking off flow. maybe not if it is truely sealed off. even still getting flow through that area would be a GOOD thing and venting it ot the back licence plate area would reduce drag.
wouldnt hurt to do it, and if you got flow out of it, that woud be all the better , especially at over 230mph!
nice work Carl! go get em!

Please tell me your rear tires will be a bit wider than those in the pics.....those look like 195's...and I think trying to put 900hp down in salt.......doesn't seem like fun to me to spin the tires at 200mph!!

Wide tires "hydroplane" on the loose surface salt so narrow tires work best BUT BIG BUT traction is still very marginal at best even with adding hundreds of pounds of lead, aluminum, and steel....Some say it is like driving on 2 inches of wet snow, Thankfully Carl has experience with that !

Brian,
There are no Z or ZR rated tires that are allowed for me. Because the record I am trying to break is 231.5 MPH, the rules require that I use 300 MPH speed-rated tires. That limits the field of choices very much.
You can use dragster front tires, but they are not meant to be on the driving wheel, and can only handle like 500 pounds of weight. Or you can use Land Speed tires, which can handle 1700 lbs per tire at 95 psi and 300 mph. This is what I am using.
Another issue: frontal area. The wide tire has a broad frontal area (bad) and landspeed tires much less so.
This picture was taken last year - the car is much more involved now. I hope to get it outside soon for a photo shoot, perhaps in the next 2 weeks.

Stopped in at the Salt Flats on Wednesday while driving from Vegas back up Seattle way. Learned that they were running this week, so detoured off my route to see it. Stopped in for a few hours, glad I did.
Had a great time, saw a bunch of wild cars and bikes. The racers were very friendly, talked to a number of people that had set records this week.
One guy described driving on the salt as like driving on wet snow at speed. I added "in 110 degree heat" and he laughed.
Good luck out there Carl.

Bonneville is SUCH a specific game......even cars built for ORR aren't really up to standards.....
I gotta ask....whats next after this?? Assuming you reach your goal.....

Hmm, never occurred to me! Looking at some of the shots though, I may or may not have captured it.
But I did get a pic of the obligatory Indian motorcycle.
More pics here if anyone is interested: http://edb.smugmug.com/Cars/Bonnevil...011246_cQXQwr7
