Oh man you guys aren't the nerds I thought you were. The ultimate nerds had HP RPN calculators on their belts. My trigonometry teacher in HS let us use our programable calculators on tests because she said if we could solve triangles with a calculator we knew the formulas good enough for her.

Sorry if this is not any help as I don't know if ***** will fit in those two spots
Smaller **** on left -----VOL
Smaller **** on right ---What ever the button next to it is selected {tuner control , fader, bal , sub level, treble , mid , bass...... etc }
The three on the bottom --- Fan speed , Temp , Select Defrost, floor, vent

So, essentially, would you even need a radio anymore? There is some savings right there.

Hans has been very gracious trying to answer everyone’s questions and I agree some of them are really elementary and some are way off the wall.
As he has pointed out, this is basically a carputer. Think of it as a PC that fits in your car. What he is making is analogous a Dell box where customers can add and delete many items and features. The beauty of this ‘box’ is that between Hans and Paul it will fit into a standard 928 console and look great.
After that the sky is the limit. Anything a laptop can do, this thing can most likely do. GPS, Video, Music, HVAC Controls , Shark Tuning, Blue tooth, USB, etc. Just like with PCs, sometimes internal or external components have to be added to gain functionality.
They will have a recommended list of software and components for those opting to configure their own. It also sounds like they might be willing to setup these systems based on individual request for an additional charge.
I think we should let these guys do some more development as opposed to field questions and suggestions. For those really interested in exploring the limits, I’d suggest you try googleing 'carputers' and do a litte research.
Here’s a link those technically challenged:

Paul and Hans,
I'll represent the bottom end of the market. I'd prefer something as stock-looking as possible utilizing the factory components and being able to upgrade as desired. Of course, if that's not feasible then at least the screen with sensor displays and stock controls? But it's your design so I'll take whatever you do (within budget). I don't need custom buttons or finish.
And thanks again, you guys. GREAT design and thread.

Don,
A stock version is in the works and should be available shortly. I am finishing up drawings for it today, and hopefully can get to some test pieces soon. I just need to squeeze a Tbelt job in soon, as I am in that danger area.
I just wanted to confirm that we will be offering a stock version. Part of the reasoning for doing the most difficult/advanced design first, is that it is easy to roll it back from this point to accommodate different parts.
Our "stock" version will still delete the ashtray in favor of Paul's new modular insert system, and will also require removing the stock shifter cover, and replace with a new boot. Lastly, the stock digital clock will not be transfered, an analog clock or gauge mounting location will offered instead. This insert will also cover the stock graphics for the climate so that they can be modernized with a new overlay
Hope to have pics up next week of the frame.

Looks great. I'm down for one.
Does this mean I won't be able to use my NOS GTS analog clock with this setup?
