Here is a little update:
these are mock-ups of the proposed AC controls for those with the PC system.
I will be back later with the layout for the standard AC control.
Pretty much any finish and color is possible with this system and these are just early examples. This only shows the area of the controls, but the finish, texture and color would carry all over the center console insert.
The buttons and the actual faceplate can be trimmed in the same color, or contrasting textures/color.
The OLED screen can be programmed to any color. I just choose that one to approximate the existing display in some GTS.
This first one is the basic black with a velvet texture that would match the factory black plastic. The material used is state of the art composite, with great abrasion resistance, anti glare and UV protection.

All the pictographs will be lit all the time, as will be the halos around each buttons. The status LEDs will light up when the function is activated.

This shows the same burl wood texture as above, with contrasting buttons.

This last one is a bit different as it is a representation of my design for a stitched leather cover for the whole insert, including the controls. Control pads can be any color or texture that will complement both the leather and the existing interior.

I am not crazy about the pictograph for the temp. button. Especially since those are rotary encoders and the letter will end up upside down.
So, if anyone as a better suggestion, it will be most welcome.
Thanks
Paul

Would there be a button for defrost mode? I am talking about the one that is all the way to the right on the stock position slider and turns the fan speed to full automatically and sets full heat. If not, then that button just opens the flaps to the windshield vents? Or does it do both, and you have to press-hold for defrost or something like that?

Yes - good question - what is the universal sign for temperature which is not a letter of the alphabet?
In place of the AC, one could always have the requisite "snowflake"

The 968 has a pretty nice climate control unit. There is no symbol on the dial for temperature and it has a snowflake for the compressor switch.

Another nice thing about that unit is that the sliders allow you to smoothly vary how much both the footwell and windshield vents open.

How about just a pair of triangles facing away from each other, one read, one blue.
Gimme a minute and I'll use my MS paint skills![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Would also avoid the problem of 60% of the world's 928's being in countries that don't use F

Looks awesome. I haven't read the whole thread, so maybe this was asked already.
Could you incorporate new vents? The original vents don't work well, since only the top one actually blows air, so on a hot day either the passenger or driver is hot... So a vent divided in the center would be a lot better.
And for the auto it would be nicer to have a smaller cutout for the shifter, requiring a much smaller boot and leaving room for either switches or a spot to place the phone while driving.
cheers

Sorry guys, should have explained in the first post.

Right to left:
Fan, AC, Recirc - OLED display - down vents, up vents/defrost, temp.
The volume **** is actually part of the PC. There is also a line of optional, programmable buttons that can go on either side of the main volume ****. I will have a mock-up for that version up shortly.
Center vents are always on. The last button is a dual function.
I like the snow flake idea and will change to it.
Thermometer is better than the "F", but would still end up upside down.
By the way, status for all functions will be given through the OLED. We are also talking about adding the shifter position for automatic cars to the OLED as well.
The rear air controls and the other controls are also coming.
We will most likely produce our own buttons in house, with a clear core and either a rubber outer sleeve or a stitched leather sleeve. The top of the buttons will me made of the same material as the switch panels and the standard insert, so it can actually look any way you want.

How about something like this for a temp dial (excuse roughness - using MS Paint on a laptop with a touchpad makes it tricky!)
Putting the triangles up near an edge rather than centered is deliberate - gives an indication of which way to turn the dial for higher/lower temps, making it more intuitive.

Or have a graded arc around the rim going from blue to red in the appropriate direction, kinda like the pic above, only on the **** and not the face, and also not ugly...
