Not much tonight, picked up heater hose, mowed yard, battened up cooling system and started on fuel lines. Should have the last of the parts I need tomorrow.

It was a tight press fit with a 6.5mm drilled hole. It would probably have stayed in place just with the tightness of the fit, but for good measure I used a little loctite too.

For non-metric countries, you may find it tricky to track down a 6.5mm drill bit, in which case using something more permanent (JB weld?) might be an option - once adjusted correctly, it shouldn't matter that you can't remove the stop.

In preparation for assembling the throttle body to the intake manifold, I want to test the new TPS.

I adjusted it to ‘click’ with just minimal throttle movement hence I believe the idle switch is working. I didn’t hear another click for WOT… shouldn’t I be able to hear that click too?

If I understand this correctly, the TPS is basically two little switches? One turns on (or off) at idle and the other turns on (or off) at WOT. If so, wouldn’t this become a continuity test between the pins at various throttle positions? Or does it contain some sort of vario resistor?

No click on the WOT switch, just test it with an ohm meter to make sure it is activating, should come in at around 80% of the throttle plate opening.

Right, WOT is a ramp with a set of points, not a switch. See #1 in this drawing.

Hey, that's a neat illustration. On the idle switch part, are there contacts that close when the throttle shaft moves to the full CCW position? That's kinda how it looks in this drawing.

Kurt, This is not meant to be a hi-jack. This question is germain to your next job...
I always here that WOT should hit at 75-80%. Is there a way of measing that precisely?
Thanks,

Kurt,
Is your test drive gonna be on the way to Alcoa? That's Greg Nettles' style. Love it.

It's not critical. If you measure at the switch, it's more like 60 deg from idle to WOT switching points . In the car the throttle pedal seems to need to open more like 80-90% of its tracvel to close the WOT contacts.

I put a new sensor in so I presume it’s good. I was just worried that it didn’t ‘click’ for WOT like it does for idle. I might slap a DMM on it tonight just for giggles. Hopefully my test drive will be this weekend and all next week (shocks, springs, tires, alignment).

Tonight I am planning on finishing up the fuel lines, hooking up the extra fuel regulator, installing the air filter in the fender and fixing the ABS harness. Tomorrow is the intake, vacuum and fuel injectors and rails.

I have Monday off for Memorial day if I need to work all day on it. I’m really hoping to start relaxing and enjoining the next several weeks staring with the Indy 500, followed by SITM, then off to Alaska for a cruise.

Work hard, play hard!

Right, the idle part is a microswitch in the little box in that corner and the cam rests on it at idle, closing the switch.

Default Not much progress

3 hours in the garage and not much to show for it.

The wire harness connectors for the fans were junk so that’s tabled until decent connectors can be procured (looks like Monday to do it right). The front fan requires some disassembly on the flap mechanism, so that’s added to the list. One fan mount broken and one missing... will need to get creative on that.
We did manage to get one fuel hose replaced and one wheel successfully taken off. The ABS harness supplied by Mason wasn’t an ABS harness at all… resorting to repairing an old one… should have opened the box weeks ago. Ah who needs brakes anyways?
This is a redo again:

I’ve taken this thing on and off a few times with different combinations of short hose versus long hose mounted vertically and horizontally. Thought we had it until I tightened everything down. Those nasty kinks, can’t live with them….

Small success.. this funny shaped fuel line unique to early 87’s is on (or should I say half on):

Tomorrow I trust will be much more productive.

Svieks,

Thanks for the kind words. I presume you know the 928 was designed by a Latvian.

I’ve been to Sigulda several of times. Some of my mom’s side lived near Ieriki.

This is my mom’s cousin’s café (well as it looked years ago), she used to play around the watermill a long time ago.

There's also a gas station and auto repair facility there... myabe you have been there?

I know that gas station very well! Next time you will be in Sigulda gime me a call. Sorry for OT.
