TB/WP R&R, Intake & Cam cover refurb, and Murf Stage One installed (Pictures & Video)

This thread is dedicated to a project I’ve been dreaming about for years. Basically, it consists of a top and front end engine fresh plus a Murf kit. I will post pictures of the progress and probably have a few questions along the way. Also have four shocks and a PKlamp that need installed.

At this point, I’ve exhausted every possible excuse not to get started:

1) Parts on hand, check (last package arrived today)
2) Garage area clean, check (finished that over the weekend)
3) Tools on hand, check (Oh, Han’s I need your fly wheel lock)
4) Beer Fridge Stocked , check (come on seriously, that’s a given)

Now the fun begins. Anyone in the area that would like to help out, learn, or just laugh at (I mean with) us… feel free to stop by this Saturday (4/24)… anytime after 10AM works for me. Please PM if you need directions

These boxes are full of parts that need to be installed. Also included is a ‘before’ picture of the engine bay and the beer fridge. I know buffing the parts won’t make it go any faster, but they sure look nice.

Good luck with the project. Just finishing mine up. Your fridge is bigger than mine. Need any help !!??

I'll take all the help I can get from those willing to work for pizza and beer.

Good luck. I'll be watching this thread with lots of interest. I wonder what will run out first, beer or patience ;)

Your refrigerator is my wet dream. Enough said.

Inventory

Completed inventory check list… all present and accounted for. Well, still waiting on Marks springs to go with the shocks, but that install is down the list.

There are parts here from Dave, Roger, Mark, Tim, Nicole, Porken, Mason and a few other vendors that don’t hang around here. If my car had as much damage as these parts cost, the insurance company would probably total it.

Custom Parts

Tonight we’ll bleed down the fuel system and run a quick compression check.

I really like the custom made parts.

Can anyone name the part in the lower right hand corner (it's factory 928)?

Wow. Great project.

Awesome project and why can't my friends ever have a beer selection like that? It's usually a 12ver of miller high life thats gone in 30 minutes between the 6 of us.

FYI, I would chuck that Blow Off Valve in the garbage and get a better one. Those Bosch plastic units leak over time.

Distributor, sans body?

Nice project. Even better organizational skills. I'll bet you have gant and pert charts.

Really nice beer, too.

Hi Kurt,

I would love to give you a hand but I have to work on Saturday. Are you going to be wrenching on Sunday? If so, I could come over and install that Pklamp for you (have lots of unwanted experience with flexpates)

Troy

Hey Troy,

If you can help out on Sunday that would be awesome! I’ll be working out in the garage all afternoon.

The car will be safely on stands by then. I have calipers to measure the recoil and an ATV jack to help raise the exhaust back into position.

I only have one creeper, so bring one if you have one… otherwise, I have plenty of cardboard.

Send me you number via email or PM and I’ll get you some directions.

Thanks!

Dibs on the Two-Hearted!

Now that i have that out of the way, I can bring my compression tester kit over tonight, the PK32Vr, and a flywheel lock and Kempf tool, do you need anything else?

Hood off, spark plugs out, compression checked, car all jacked up!

Hood off, spark plugs out, compression checked, and car all jacked up using Porken Bars.

Except for forgetting to remove the second number 6 plug, everything went pretty smooth thanks to Brett having a 21mm spark plug wrench in his tool kit. Standard craftsman deep sockets don’t fit into the spark plug wells.

The compression was really consistent between 180 & 185 cranking it 16 revolutions or 8 compression strokes. That increased to 195 once all the plugs were removed.

Beer fridge only took a minor hit and will recover by Saturday. Next up... radiator is coing out.
