Got up early and drove the bumpers to a sand blaster this morning....yes SAND blaster. He did hold the nozzle about a foot and a half away from where he was blasting but it came out very nicely. Not too agressive in my opinion...although I do know from personal experience one CAN dig a hole with walnut shell if your not carefull. I Wish I had done that to start with. Stripping or DA sanding these bumpers is just too much work. I HIGHLY recommend media blasting..and sand is fine as long as its not too close and your carefull.
Got them back home and cleaned up. 3 coats of high build 2 K primer. After they dried I remounted them again and sat the car in the sun.
Tomorrow I hope to finish all the prep on both bumpers ( body filler is small areas) and wet sand with 600 grit.....MONDAY looks like paint day!!!!
Anyway...I thought I would post some pics on bumper fitment.

IMPRESSIVE! I went through that a few years ago with a 1990 300ZX Twin TUrbo, it was a lot of fun.
Got any more info and pics on the exhaust?

Thanks...its a Borla exhaust. It came on the car when he bought it in 2007. It DOES sound very nice. I wish I had a Borla on my s4 but I just have the money.

Many thanks James...positive comments make working on this easier. I LOVE this color. If I thought Garrett would let me I would paint my s4 this color. Its so much nicer in person than in pics. He did a great job picking this color.

Well I'm officially on the bumpers. Picked up 3M's 5895 Flexible plastic repair kit. About $36.00 and is a 2 part ( 2 tubes ) that mixes and looks just like JB Weld. Sands really well. I'm building up the front bumper and filling in some imperfections on the rear. If the weather holds I really think I can have color on these tomorrow. ( but I've said that before )

Great work Dean.
That 3M kit is the best. I just took part of a seminar on bumper cover repair 3M hosted at the paint store I buy my paint from. They explained the two products they have for bumper repair: one can only be used on the inside because it can't be painted on - I used it myself to repair and fabricate some tabs on a bumper I repaired and it worked like magic.
The other product is the one you're using which is for the outside repairs it goes on like any other putty but the best part is that it's flexible just like the bumper material.
Cheers,
Tom

Not a whole lot done today. Weather was iffy. Tomorrow is as well so right now it looks like the 25 will be paint day. I did do some sanding and I took his dash apart. I sanded all the scratches out of the clear lens with Mothers headlight lens kit. I know some may think this next part is a little rice but...I'm going to paint the dash bezel the body color. I really think it will add a little punch on the inside. I sanded and primed it today as well. Let the stones fly!
I wish I had another speedo as his is 85 MPH...but that will come later I guess.

I LOVE that Dean! Great idea and great work. Agree a new speedo should be a priority, but you have the ability to break in to that thing any time you want so not a huge deal to put it in later. Surely someone has one to donate to this worthy project!
