Looking for where to just get a base to go to the MAF.
A single mount going from the MAF into 2 exits.
Would like to see different ideas posted and where to get a mount to start from.

I'd also like to see some ideas. The stock setup is a bit cheap and crappy looking, imo.
I have been looking to do one also, the cayenne system and the panamera look similar to the black bird system. I found that the panamera hoses are flexible couplings and can be use in conjunction with a k&N filter on each side. I am not certain of the height ,but the price for the tube that resemble the y shaped only cost 30.00 bucks...Any other members might want to check that out too....
This is the DR (928Specialist) 'Blackbird' system mentioned above (Which I love!):
This is my custom job (with major tip of the hat to Kuhn Performance for the filter setup)
I left the MAF in the stock location and made my own splitter. The part in front of the radiator is from Kuhn Performance (and designed for the S4+, so it needs to be modified).
Maybe DR from 928 Specialists can provide just a splitter for the MAF and you can build your own system from there.
Found these on the K&N site looks like maybe a start. It says good for 250HP I take that is 1 filter so duals should be good for up to 500hp
Maybe just taking the filter out of the stock airbox and testing the K&N to see if it runs stronger and if it does finish up with a different system to the MAF or like someone posted Johns setup they made their own spliter. The spliter part is what I am looking for and like to test different filters.I think the K&N looks cool they had different colors also.

Assuming the K&N filters posted above are of similar quality of the units DR is using, they are $200 each. So before any fabrication you are already looking at $400.
So $300 for material's fab work and whatever left over for DR's profit.....seams perfectly reasonable to me.
Cost / benefit ratio for N/A engines is always a bit high.

Not questioning DR's price for the thing, just the benefit using ANY modified system on a NA engine.
There's just not much to be gained here without boost it seems. Other than being cheap looking plastic there isn't anything really functionally "bad" about the stock system.
As you say, big money for small gains without a blower.

Not to mention I don't have the luxury of high volume chinese manufactured parts!
To give you an example JUST one of the billet aluminum (CNC machined from a solid chunk of Billet 6061) aluminum "cones" for the BlackBird costs me $80 each in small quantities (50 at a time), that's just one of the 2 cones, not the housings, filters, or the rest of the system.
FYI, when we get the tooling finally done we will offer a less expensive version with rotocast composite cones/housings that will reduce the cost dramatically in that area.
In a nutshell, for those thinking the price is high it is simple, pay all the upfront tooling costs and manufacture them for me at the same quality for less and I will sell them for less and we can both make money. :-)

I like the K&N look wonder how they perform.
Too funny, I couldn't beleive it when I saw them introduce that a year ago!
Ironically when I approached them 3 years ago the contact there told me my design wouldn't work well :-) I also found it hilarious they are using the same shaped filter I orginally used (identical rounded front cone from Ford F-150 stock filter). Luckily my newer "SR-71" filter tips that work even better hasn't been adopted by them...yet :-)
BTW, the last time I checked their specs for this it was WAY too large of a diameter to fit in the confined spaces in the 928 engine compartment.

Quite a few times I've been negligent in my filter checking and found a clod of 'stuffts' over the center intake area of the filter. I wonder how much air goes through the outer boundaries of the flat panel filter into the MAF.
Would love the see a clear stock air filter housing and some smoke ingestion pictures/video to see how the air goes into the MAF.
I bet I could make my own version of that Black Bird system. That's one helluva nice setup.
One of the guys here (my apologies for not remembering his name, I have been "under the weather" the past few day so my mind isn't very clear) made a VERY nice copy of it. Do a search here and you will find it, might give you some ideas of how to make your own.
