Question Who's using the BlackBird Twin Air Filter System?

I did a search first and couldn't find any reference in a prior thread. So here's the question. Who's using the BlackBird Twin Air Filter System?

I love the look of it and would like to fit one to the GTS. Sadly it's a little pricey (using Aussie peso's) but would like to hear from anyone who has installed this kit.

I would really like to test one out too,see the dyno test but like to see what it would do at the drag strip on back to back runs compared to a stock system.I'm ready to use my car this summer as the test mule. All stock it runs 9.40's in 1/8th mile wonde how much it would ad is it worth .1 to .2 in the 1/8th mile?

Hi Leonard,

Good to hear from you, hope all is well down on your side of the world!

Currently there are only 3 BlackBirds in existance, all being used by Rennlist members. I will let them speak up with their comments if they so chose.

One of the positives with the recent down turn in the economy is I have finally come to terms with a large manufacturer willing to make the BlackBird Induction Body for me.

The current schedule for production is May, even with delays I hope to have a large shipment before Sharks in the Mountains (or I will cry)

It will be a one peice induction body (no clamps and couplers on the elbows as seen below) and will have cast in mounting bosses for the original airbox mounting studs. It also features a molded MAF coupler with an O-ring and is mechanically fastened to the MAF. You can see a similar MAF setup in the picture below, if you look close at the MAF connection. This one is the last of the hand made versions.

Concerning pricing there is also a possibilty of a lower cost version without the clear housings and billet aluminum "cones" (which are currently the biggest cost). If that works out there will be a standard lower cost version and an "X" version which will still use the clear housing with billet cones.

Keep an eye on the website www.928blackbird.com for details that will be updated as I get more info. There are some hints there now.

Thanks for your interest in the BlackBird, I have a lot of faith in the product, so much so that I am putting big bucks into it for upfront tooling, molding patterns etc. to make it for those who want one.

Leonard,

Even though the search function is a little handicapped at the moment, I did find one thread for you.

I am on the waiting list and can't wait to get my hands on it and fit it to my GTS.

I have one on my GTS and I really like it. Seat-of-the-Pants dyno feels like a noticeable bump in power. Plus it has a cool factor when the hood goes up. Sorry I have no actual dyno figures, but there is no way in hell the system is NOT going to give you better air flow to the intake. I think Sharktuning would really get the most out of it, since it is so much more efficient at moving air to the intake.

Query - doesn't that aluminum plumbing heat the air flowing in and thus decrease performance?

God I want one of those. As soon as the 'needs' are met, time to move on to the 'desires'

It certainly can, but there is not a lot of transient time of the air in the intake. Think how hot the intake itself is on top of the engine.

good point Mark. Too bad that blackbird won't work with an 85/86 set up.

I wonder if they could put shorter air filters horizontally along the firewall and run the ram air tubes to them?

I am looking at alternative arrangements for the 85-86 and the 16V. I have a few ideas I am playing with. As with anything under the hood of a 928 it is all about "packaging".
