Do the oil filter casing metal bits look anything like engine bearing material metal bits?

Aluminum bits is aluminum bits unless laced with copper!

Good news is the car goes in tomorrow for the trouble shooting.

I probably know the least of anyone in this forum; that said, assuming it is not TBF, is it possible the performance chip installed has failed?

Just a thought.

Good luck Rich and my only advice: never use Jiffy Lube. My niece in LA had a 2005 Hyundai, less than a year old. Brought it to Jiffy Lube. They did the oil change but forgot one very, very small detail...putting oil in.

She drove about 50 miles before the engine ceased.

Suffice to say Jiffy Lube payed for a brand new engine and rental car until it was fixed.

Anything is possible, but my guess is the alternator took a crap and that is what seized and the voltage dropped to the point the injectors would no longer fire.

I hope you are right, Greg. If so you are a genius and deserve a huge cheer.
Best case scenario by far.

Few years ago a friend of mine bought a Volvo with a seized engine (he already had a replacement). Full battery, breaker bar etc...nothing would turn the engine.

Until he cut the A/C belt - then it fired right up.

I've seen an engine where the starter gear somehow became mangled into the starter ring and the engine would not turn at all.

Is there a chance that the timing belt let go and he has piston to valve contact?...that would also cause the engine not to turn over...have you looked to see if the belt is still taunt?...just a thought....Bill

Not much, it usually just bends the valves and the valve heads stay intact.

OK Hear is the news I and maybe some of you have been waiting for………………..the engine now runs…………………..but………..the plate was bowed……….once the camp and plate were loosened the engine was free to turn!!! The play in the crank is .011” or .28mm I think the tolerance in play is .29mm. Now here is the question I’m sure I know the answer to, do I drive it or tear it down and look at it new bearings turn the crank etc.?

If crank end play is still in tolerance, take the oil filter out, cut it apart with tin snips, remove the filter media and lay it out in the sun. If you see metal particles, you will need to clean the engine oil passages really well. Then buy a Superclamp or a PK-Klamp and install it.

Engine now has new oil. So how long should the engine be run and have the oil tested again to check for bearing wear contamination?
