928 engine seized while driving
you can always put a 350v8 in http://www.renegadehybrids.com/, i recommend this instead of putting another engine in, you might end up like me if you dont
We dont have a clue to anything that is wrong with it, will it turn over? will the engine turn?
We have to have a little to go on, the OP says it is seized, but from what I gather it just stopped running, could be anything.

The engine is seized. I will have more info as soon as my mechanic looks at it. Thanks for the 4 pages of info, we may not have a solution yet but it has been a great thing for me to read and learn.
I have seen more than a few seized motors turn out to be accessory drives, alternator, air pump, ac, ps, remove all the drive belts and try to turn the motor before you write it off.
Have you tried to turn it with a wrench yet?
Have tried it with a wrench with all accessories attached and it does not move.
If I had to guess, yours is done.
Sorry if I missed where you had said you had verified that it was in fact seized.
How far off of 93 are you? I am north of Plymouth, I can come look at it if you want. Is the car at your mechanic's place? Has he looked at the oil yet? Cut the filter open?
How many miles on the car?

If your mechanic is not well versed in 928s, I would recommend having Zeus or Gretch or someone who IS well versed in 928s look at it. A non-928 mechanic can be a good mechanic, but there are a lot of nuances that can cost you A LOT of money unecessarily.
I can understand your disappointment with your "replacement" engine but until you have personally experienced " put in a 350 " and what that entails if you are PAYING someone to do it.......You have no idea ! Plus once installed the american mechanics do not like or understand all the Porsche stuff and most Porsche mechanics would not touch someone else's hybrid conversion... The only guy who can work on it is the one who put it in and did all the wiring modifications which is why do it yourself guys whose labor is FREE and they LIKE to tinker find the 350 swap an alternative.
I would definitely go the short block route. We have some mechanically savy people on here that can walk you through the steps on removing your engine and swapping the good parts over.
Novice928.
In Post #1 you say you coasted in drive and the steering and brakes were little / no different from usual. If you used the brakes a number of times and the power brake booster was keeping the brakes properly boosted then this suggests that your engine was still rotating.
In post #49 you say that the engine is indeed seized. Can you help us out be telling us what you did to confirm this? A 27mm socket, short extension and long bar onto the nut at the front of the crank is probably the simplest way to try to turn the engine over by hand.
I would NOT suggest that you try to restart it now. But I bet you have had a go at restarting it since the event. What happened / what sounds did you hear when you did that?
