Inexpensive Super Cars? What's your suggestions?
Hi Everyone,
I definately am pleased to own my '88 928 S4, runs great and fast.
I have been watching those auto auction shows on TV and there are plenty of expensive "Super Cars".
My question to you is, what other "Super Cars" are out there on the used car market that cost less than $20k? Any car but the 928, I pick it, haha...
Give me your suggestion and a picture if you have one.
Thanks,
Joe

Define super car, a luxury shoe box shaped car or a high performance good handling car.
Why would a mondial be a super car, isn't it like the 924 of Porsche, affordable fun car with an expensive badge?

Super Cars, look at the list of iron I have gone through in the past 10 years.
Your BEST bang for the buck is a ticked off owner of a Ferrari, Lotus, Lambo (saw one go for $26,000.00 when it dies on teh owner at a show for as he said the LAST TIME)
If you want Luxury then the Rolls or Bentley which are way down in price. The Jaguar market is FLAT I have an XJ6 VDP that belonged to Leonard Skinner (the guy the band was named after) and driven by Ronnie VanZants wife. We can not get more than $3,500.00 for a car that was APPRAISED at $15,000.00 as a collector car in 2005.
Careful what you get there are VERY FEW honest forums like this one that will give you a fair answer and point you in the correct direction.
If you REALLY want one you can PM me and I can put you in touch with the people trying to sell me cars EVERY DAY.

I think the Lotus Elise should be included in supercars for under 30K. It is fast as a C5 vette and handles and stops better. In a recent Car and Driver test the Lotus Elise ran the VIR track in 3:05.0. It finished in front of cars such as the Ford Shelby GT500 at 3:07.4, new BMW M3 3:05.4, Nissan Nismo 370Z 3:12.0, and the Chevrolet Camaro SS 3:09.5. A good condition Lotus elise can be had for 20-30K. My dad's is really fun to drive and averages 30mpg. I wouldn't recommend that someone over 6'2" purchase this car and sometimes the steering can feel a little heavy in parking lots, but you save weight by not having a power steering pump.

Good luck finding an NSX for under $30k!
Same for the E46 under $20k! I have never seen either...at least not in a state that you might actually want to OWN and not need to invest $5k to $10k to make them right.
Oh, same for the late model Supra's...at least the Turbo models...
I'd love to own ALL THREE of those cars and so I look at them from time to time, but have not found any "good deals" even really.
The next car I get I would really like for it to be an E46 M3...so any of you guys with leads on good ones for a good price always keep me in mind.
If they made the Elise w/ an auto/SMG gear box AND (more importantly) if I could easily get in one from my wheelchair I would be ALL OVER those cars! I LOVE the look! So exotic, so reliable, so easy to care for, for so little money! Ferrari (or better) looks, some of the best performance you can buy for any price and the cost of a Camry! YEA BABY! It would FOR SURE need to be a weekend type car, but man how fun could your weekends be with that car at a race track?!

I have another supercar for you...
M/B 600 SEC... nice! V12, room for 4, amazing ride...probably a MINT to repair if it breaks! Could probably find one for right around $20k that is actually pretty nice.
Here is another not mentioned above...
Ferrari 456! Very nice...another V12 for you guys. Probably the closest thing in cost and GT ability to the 928 GTS, and probably still not quite as good for the sporty stuff as a 928, but maybe slightly better for the Touring side of it... WAY, WAY more expensive to repair than a 928 if it breaks! The 456 is still a bit out of the "affordable" price range but the reality is that they (most all of them frankly) are $40k to $55k cars...some folks refuse to put the crack pipe down and think they have a car worth $65k to $70k but they will have the cars till the day they die at those asking prices... The 456 is another car I aspire to own and follow closely.

I saw an 82 Mondial today for less than $10k (72k miles). Needs some TLC, though the paint is decent. Sunroof doesn't seem to close properly, so I suspect there is some moisture inside.

Before I bought my 928 about 3 or 4 years ago, I was looking into the various 'affordable to purchase' supercars.
Back then, early NSX's in left hand drive, with a high mileage were around £8k GBP, so even at the height of the exchange rate, that was about 16k USD.
I'd still be tempted by one now - although i'd save up a little more and get a right hand drive instead.
