1980- 85 Maserati Quattroporte- built to last - the best interior ever.
Bulletproof engine, Chrysler Torqueflite- a reliable powertrain.
Spend time to find a good one with good int/ body/ mechanicals
and you are in at less than $15k by a lot.

I don't know if it was mentioned but the Maserati 3200gt is getting pretty cheap, now that is a really nice car .

Jim that's interesting. I read a LOT of horror stories about the electrics in those cars (of course I own a 928 so...)

I had an 82 Quattroporte as as daily driver for 2 years. It was a high miler when I got it, something like 135,000 . It had a valve job/ head gaskets at around 110k. During the time I had it, all I needed to do was a couple of hoses and a voltage regulator
(bosch alt) + clean the fuse holder contacts. Sold
it with over 150k on it. The engines are indestructable- bottom timing chain is 3 row, top chains are double row, externally adjustable nothing has to come off. Uses same brake pads as Aston on front- most items are used on other cars IE: oil filter is oc47 Mahle (VW Rabbit)
Look for a GOOD one (no rust buckets) & you'll
have a lot of bang for the buck. Plenty of reprints of reviews done when they were new.

Fair enough, but these are about as close to supercars as you can get (in decent shape) for under $20k.

Gotta toss in a vote for the W215 Mercedes coupe. Think CL600: Twin Turbo V12. Commonplace in large cities, so not gonna gather much attention, but spend $1200 on a tune, and you're looking at Ferrari / Lamborghini embarrassing power (600 + HP & Torque) in a car that also has every creature comfort known to man. Pretty damn sweet.

I've been trying to figure out a replacement for my 928 after the car fire and had a bit of a tough time with it. Here is my short list:

03-05 CL55 AMG - German muscle car 500hp but parts & service are crazy
03-04 Jaguar XKR - British muscle but only 300hp plus maintenance issues
03 Audi RS6 - 450 hp sedan but would prefer 2 seater (nice option)
91+ Lotus Espirit S4 - Fast, modifiable for serious power but also $$$ on maintenance
02-03 Corvette Z06 - American Muscle - serious power but a bit too common.

Cheers,
Ather

The XKR has 390 HP, not 300.

I wouldn't turn down any of the cars you listed!

I think the Benz has a touch of Buick in it, just to complement the noted Mustang appeal.

My first 'super car' - twin turbo and 4wd - 1991 - sorely missed Audi S2

Add another $3,800 and you will have 800 hp. Yes, they are power monsters but the ABC suspension can be a nightmare.
