I totally agree. The cheapest, simplest path to huge HP on the 928 would involve compressed intake charge.

For reasons both stylistic (I like cubic inches) and legalistic (it's california, where they get a bit crazy about forced induction that didn't go through million-dollar testing programs), I happen to veer off the obviously easy path and do something different... with a little help from some lunatic named Greg

Yeah, but you spent a big brown paper bag full of c-notes, not the medium-size bag, right? ;-)

extra large bag. Super size. Zero sanity included.

Coulda had Chebby hp and handling for a tenth the price... but then I'd be in a Camaro...

I have a 5 speed so I see no issue with shifting or idle. Also I live in a smog free state. No A/C either. Several cost cutting features of my install. Cost to integrate? $2500 give or take once. Couple hundres more if I upgrade the radiator.

10 years from now I can call jegs for a new engine. Will our vendors even be in business in 10 years? I hope so but most likey the herd will be thinned

Why would I want the same Camaro everybody else has? Why would I want the same 928 everybody else has. Sometimes it's just fun to tinker and do something different. It's about the journey too.

I've talked to a BUNCH of people about swaps, and I think I have maybe learned one thing. Once people decide on a swap, rational arguments against it have no effect.

Take some pictures and keep us in the loop while your having fun.

Well, no one said blown is dishonest or something. He sounded a bit xenophobic and perhaps too stucked in the "you should first get X thousands posts and then have the right to an opinion" philosophy.

I tried to let everyone know that I have no "over the top Porsche purism", but that I've actually been down this road, still help with these projects, and understand it. However, since he is trying to build a racer....I think it is wise to know that there are limited places that you can run a car of this nature.
You have to understand that I made a joke about your "not being allowed to park near Porsche event" statement. This was the part that seemed over-the-top to me, as quoted in my initial message.

The fact that somehow blown received this as a personal affront and started to "battle" me over nobody knows what, has little to do with anything else on this topic.

Be sure that I fully understand the fact that the OP could benefit from your experience. As long as this experience doesn't materialize here in "go buy Camaro" type of advice.

That's good. You set the shift points.

That's bad. Raced strokers have had a nasty tendency to break gears. Seems they need cryo-treated GTS gearboxes. ($$$$)

I take offense to your comparing a friend of mine to Osama bin Laden.
What is acceptable in Europe might not fly in the US.

My guess is that there are only 3-4 folks that have posted in this thread that have done SBC conversion of any kind, are you one of them?

The two that I am sure of are Greg Brown and myself.
I think the folks that have been there and done that, not post count, have a right to say "Buy a Camaro".

I don't understand why everybody's got their panties up their cracks suddenly. People come to the SBC conversion thread looking for a fight? As far as I can see, both Greg Brown and Adrian were making fun of Porsche purists. Little misunderstanding there, but other than that, aren't the two really agreeing about the Porsche purism of some people going a bit far?

Ricer knows I have zero problems with him doing a conversion.

Blown, you might want to ask yourself why your friend (or anyone else, for that matter) didn't took any offense in that joke? Maybe he/they caught the spirit better then you.

Being offended by someone portraiting Osama in Uncle Sam-style posters that are urging the viewer to do all kind of looney stuff might point that you need to loosen up a bit.

I predict ricer's car will never run right and he will stop driving it for a year after just a few weeks of frustration. Then it will end up on eBay and sell for $3k.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I do hope it goes well. At least we'll have a front row seat on the process. I'm getting more interested to see how well it works. What's the planned completion date?

Ricer,

Are you building this car for the road course or drag racing? If for the road course, how much experience do you have with 928s on the track? A ultra light, 500hp 928 could be a very lairy. It would not be a good car to learn in.

No matter what the power-plant, the 928 is the most stable older car around.

Bill,

I wish him well with it also. However, there is a car on Ebay now with a Supercharged TPI SBC for less than $3K.. He could just buy that and save the headache of doing all this again. I am sure he can call the dealer, offer them the 3K, and have 2 928's for less than he will spend on his 383 stroker.. (He claimed to be saving a bucket of cash, so that car on ebay would surely help in this respect.)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

He doesn't need smog, so it would be perfect for him....!

Just a thought.....
