Restoring any 928 doesn't make monetary sense. We are all guilty of making poor financial decision in regard to these cars we love. If Ricer wants a Chevy engine, why does it need to make sense? I personally don't like the idea, espeacially a carburated engine, but it's not my project. Go for it Ricer. Please do it right and keep us posted on your progress. I think you will find that it's going to cost alot more than you are planning for.

All power to you!
May the V8 Force be with You....
I am sure it will be a very interesting experiment in power and economics.
Plus its a pretty scandalous topic!

I have a couple of questions...
I am sure you must have considered supercharging your Porsche engine...
It will give you plenty of bang for less buck than your Chevy conversion.
Please tell me why you chose not too...
And secondly is this going to be a race car or some kinda of unspecified fun toy?
Getaway car..?)))

He doesn't need smog, so it would be perfect for him....!

Just a thought.....
Yep, seems like a no-brainer unless he has some serious objection to the way it was done and would have to start over.

There is little new and different about putting a SBC into a 928 , I lost track of how many exist. The smog legal GM engine is interesting BECAUSE it is Ca. smog legal but for those NOT in Ca you have many more options Have fun and DRIVE !

Greg Nettles thought that the Osama poster was a bit over the top and was stepping up, for a friend. Hard to find humor, about Osama, in the US, right now. Might be different in Europe. It's cool.

Completion date should be January depending demand at work.

Car on ebay is interesting but many unknown factors like milage or condition of SBC, how installed and what short cuts taken. Finally it's a LT-1, I'm not a big fan. Even with the paxton it may make less power. I'm a big fan of a zero miles crate engine with a warranty, proven install kit and my labor.

As for purpose, car will be a fun weekend toy. Cruise to dairy queen, tear up the twisties coming home. 1/$ mile track once a month for fun. More Auto X and DE days. Finally I hope to run a couple big tracks like ATL. I know my engine choice limits my options for events, however my work schedule will not allow more than 4-5 weekends a year anyway. If I can get my road race skill set up to middle of the pack in a couple years I think I'll be happy. If this was going to be a dedicated track car, I'd have stayed with the hybrid and grown into the car on the track.

I guess I have too much musclecar still in my blood. I understand my choices may not make sense to everyone. However I hope to document the install so others can make a better descision if they are tempted to do the SBC swap.

I say we just let it go. Sorry if the Osama joke was so horrific to anyone. That definitelly wasn't my intention, apparently some got it as intended, some didn't. Cultural differences can be tricky sometimes.

P.S. You do know that bin Laden is dead since 2001 and the US government finally dismantled in 2005 the special unit that was hunting his ghost, right?

Does anyone remember Patrick McKiernan? He had a hybrid 928 which I think he tracked. Is that car still running?

Ricer,

If you track it, you should get s4 brakes on in. With 500hp you out run your s2 brakes. I think Mr. Ott had to put some very large tires (335mm?) on the back to tame the power.

Actually that is a L98, not a LT1, the LT1 is a OptiSpark engine.

Here is the same L98 in my Corvette, but this one is a Procharger with a intercooler.

A paxton on a L98 with no meth or intercooler is going to be boost limited, maybe 5 PSI or so.

Let's not pretend outrage here. If you flip on the tube here in the US, the odds are that you'll hear an Osama joke.

Any word on the new dyno?
i have Patriot heads, they are a PHENOMENAL company to deal with and have through the roof customer service, I would be interested to see the actual dyno with a real curve to it...
