Jim, as usual is right. Porsche has a new master, and only time will tell what their vision for the brand will be. Not, I think, the same a Wendikind's. I kinda suspect that Porsche will become the 911 company, but that could be totally wrong and it could become the Lexus/Acura of VW (pretty much the same broad offerings as VW with better leather and more power). Anybody know of any initial clues as to their thinking?

I think your answers are likely to be slanted here. :P We all think the 928 is a great car, but we're in the minority or we wouldn't be able to get them so cheap. I'd love to see one, and I'd love to see it linked to the 928, but it might be a sketchy decision for Porsche, since 99% of the public can't tell the difference between a 924 a 944 and a 928. I hear "Poor Man's Porsche" so many times it drives me nuts. :P

I love the 928 for what it is and what it can do. I can afford it, would love a new 928 but i couldn't afford it! Porsche (VW) won't build a car to compete with Audi.

Cheers!

Porsche already IS the 911 company. There are what, 10+ different models of the SAME car?

Audi already fills the NICE VW segment. The R8 is a direct competitor with the 911 more or less. They don't however have a car that would go to the territory the 928 would fill. If you look at the other VW group supercars, there is only really the Bentley Continental GT. So, would they build something to compete more or less directly with that car? The 928 would be that car.

Jon, you are right on the money there. The "new 928" would likely be close to the same category, but leaning MUCH more to the sporting side than the CGT Bentley. It would need to take on the 599 and Aston DBS/DB9 for it to make sense to Porsche/VW. It would be cool if the B pillar and rear quarter glass treatments would look 928-like vs. 911 like, but I am betting on the latter, not the former and thus (if the car is built) it will look more like a front engine 911 than a revamped 928...

Exactly. Everyone should just come to terms with the fact that it is going to be two door panamera in the looks department.

The panorama engine options are already there. They would not need much work to put them over the top of pretty much everything available.

They should do what they did when they designed the 928: set a goal, get out a clean sheet of paper, and create, again, the greatest GT ever. That is the real 928 heritage, not engine type or drivetrain layout, not the shape of the A- or B-pillars, not a revamped anything. Just the best GT ever made. Then, and again now. That's what I want to see from Porsche, and they are certainly more than capable of doing it.

I think having a 911 GT2 RS GTS Turbo S 4S would rock. Don't need it in a Cab though.

I'd prefer a follow-on to the 218
