We have found someone to take on the Holbert restoration project. O'Behave (Ed) is going to take on the project after we take what is left of the Holbert World Speed Record setting Porsche 928, down to Mark Anderson's 928inl to do the swap of my drive train to the donated, donor tub. Ed and I reached an agreement for all the Holbert pieces, with the original short block, and even the original doors that have been in storage for 8 years . He is requesting that I leave the cage in the car, as it is a pretty good cage and is not damaged, so that will help me in the labor department, now not needing to take a sawzall to it. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
There are still many challenges ahead, as we coordinate the restoration of my new race car based on the donor chassis, and what might be needed to bend the holbert tub, back in to shape. I will be providing all the documentation I have on the car, along with a library of pictures of its transformation from abandoned rescue vehicle, to race car.
I look forward to seeing the ole' Holbert 928, back in action some day soon. Even though it had 8 years of hard racing, 8 years of IMSA rescue duty, 4 years of loneliness in someones side yard or in a high school auto shop, and a brief stint on the Salt at Bonneville going 172mph for a couple of miles, I believe its work is not done capturing the imagination of all 928 owners everwhere.

Congratulations to you both!
There will be a lot of work to be done on both projects. Hopefully the 928 owners around the world will be able to help with it's restoration as well as help one of our favorite 928 racers get back on track.
Looking forward to "The official Holbert/Kibort 928 restoration thread" to be started and keep us informed as to it's progress and what might be needed through the restoration.
Same applies for "The official Kibort 928 racer rebuild thread" for the same purpose.
Can't wait to see the process begin for both projects!

Just great news! Happy to contribute to the resurrection.
Ed - what are your plans for the car? What type. level and historical state will you be restoring to?
You need to set up a way, for those interested, to donate $, parts, or labor.

Glad your sticking with the 928 platform for racing, Mark.
Its also great to hear about the restoration of the Holbert car. Definitely an affair of the heart.

Ed and Mark,
Great news, Great resolution to a problem. SO glad to hear it will continue to "live" as one of the symbols of the 928 prowess. It - like so many other 928's is (In the immortal words of the new Porsche museum exhibit of the LAST 928 produced) "the greatest car ever built".
Best wishes Ed for success in restoration, and I echo Dan's suggestion of setting up a contribution site.

I am very excited to be involved in the preservation of this piece of Porsche history and my goal is to keep it around for all to enjoy.I want input from the community as to what the best stage of restoration should be completed to and with participation from all interested.I do not have a solid plan as of yet just to say my first goal was to make sure it didn't end up in a scrap yard!I asked Mark for the cage to stay intact just for the option of possibly bringing it to the as raced stage.I would like to thank Mark for his help in making this all happen and look forward to putting all this documentation and restoration together.Exactly how this whole thing wll be coordinated is still in the making but as of right now the first main goal to be achieved is to get the car here to Connecticut and strip it down and get it on the frame machine as see whats what. Any ideas or people want to assist in transporting it from LA to CT?Ed

Ed,
Congrats, great score (I'm jealous:-)!! If there is anything I can help with please don't hesitate to ask. I would also be happy to be a part of the "relay" effort of transporting the Holbert car if needed. I can easily make the time to go 5-10 hours worth in either direction with my car hauler to help get it closer to you.
As far as "best stage of restoration" I vote for the Land Speed Record version. This is what makes it such a special 928 IMHO, even thou it was only for a short period of time. What Mark has done with it as a 928 racer is fantastic and amazing, but there are more than one successful 928 racers out there, but only 1 Land Speed Record holder.

For the land speed record run it was essentially a factory fresh car with a few oddities, such as aluminum intake manifold (or so it appears) and custom LH. For display purposes, neither of these would be necessary.
