I don't intend to hijack this thread and I've already expressed my condolances to Mark. This is the reason I won't race a Porsche with SCCA or just about any club that doesn't honor car's many speed variances and match them accordingly. When you race with Porsches only as in PCA/POC/PRC, or NASA's GTS series, you're running with trained drivers (hopefully) in similarly valued cars who hopefully have a large deal of respect for their fellow racers and cars. With race clubs allowing any car or driver all bets are off and these types of bonehead moves occur all too often unfortunately. A bleeping Honda takes out a historic 928. Just doesn't seem right in this universe....

Mark, I'm very sorry to see this, but I am relieved that you don't appear to be injured. Nevertheless, you should see a chiropractor and make sure everything is where it belongs.

It's a testament to the strengths of the platform that it took something this extreme to close the book on the Holbert car. Fortunately it's easier to replace than you are!

I have to wonder, if the Honda was close enough to the limit to lose it, and moving 50mph slower, what was he doing on the same grid in the first place?

Pains me to see your car like that. I'm glad you are OK. Good luck, Mark.

I guess your charity race with VR is out of the question for a while.

Wow.

Glad you're ok Mark, that was some hit. Too bad about the Holbert car, but if its a goner, this is as good a way to for it to go as any.

And Mark A, wow, class act all the way.

Hey Mark,

I wandered over to check on you and saw the car - I didn't interrupt you since you were still working with the stewards.

You might talk to John Pagel at Evil Genius Racing in Sacramento. He's got some frame guys who can do amazing things clipping/straightening bent chassis . He's cost effectively saved some badly damaged lesser cars which others gave him after writing them off. HIs guys might be able to get your car back together.

I have to agree with you, as much as the drivers that do compete in SCCA have impressed me, the lack of true certification of driver ability, is a weakness of the club and endagers all for those few that really dont measure up to the standards we all expect at a minimum. I dont really mind the differential of speed as much of the lack of ability. Good racers spin, but they seem to announce when they are near their limits and you can choose to ignore or respect it. In this case, someone in this kind of car, shouldnt have been driving at 11-tenths after a point-by in a real slow car with brand new hoosiers, going half our speeds. Just a crying shame.

Sorry to hear it Mark. Glad that you're ok.

Whatever you do, PLEASE do not post a video of the crash. It will just turn into some sort of train wreck online. People will claim they will learn things from it, but in the end if will just degenerate into something none of us need to read.

Get better quick,

Mike

+1. I feel as naked without my HANS device as I do if I were to drive on the street without seat belts. On the track, even in the hottest weather, I'll still wear my race suit; although I'm cooler in shorts and short sleeves, I feel too vulnerable.

Please, always wear your HANS/R3/whatever.

Major bummer Mark. Hope you can get the car fixed or into a new one as painlessly as possible.
+ whatever, get yourself checked out again by some pros. If you had blurry vision, you've had a high enough impact to warrant a proper diagnosis.
