Doc posted that at 01:34hrs. today.
Still true as of 14:20 eastern for the first ten pictures. Pix through Attachment 381926 are still missing and get an error message when clicked.

Bill, even though this is a great fix and affordable in the scheme of things, I personally would not want to play with fire and install water pumps with a metal impeller and try my luck. Don't forget that the aluminum shavings that will invade the water system can and will get lodged in areas that could cause more problems in the future.

Once again, big kudos to Steve and Greg!
Regarding the JB Weld, I have learned to respect the stuff, though I see it misused a lot. I think it will really do the trick here, to make the insert "one" with the block. My only concern would be, if the insert gets eaten and needs to be replaced, that's going to be an adventure.

Then again, after this happens once I can't imagine the owner replacing the water pump with a metal impeller again.

Gotcha and agreed! Good luck and hopefully your's won't do any of this block machining. I'm sure that soon you will have the chance to help someone do this to their 928 in case your itching to try it out.

I used JB Weld to patch a few small rust holes on the rear tail light panel of my '67 Mustang about 17 years ago. The stuff worked great and is still there and the rust never came back. So I guess auto body repair should be one of the jobs listed on the package!!

I resemble that remark. We just used it to fill in some serious pitting on a rebuilt head. Ok so it was the LeMons car and not a 928, but hey it's running like a fine Japanese watch now. I'll bet you it lasts the race just fine, even if other stuff might not....

Screws plus epoxy is kind of the "belt AND suspenders" theory, for when you REALLY don't want your pants to fall down....I'd probably stake the edge of the screws as well...
If you loose another metal impeller, you may have to rent the tool again to clean up the area.
Or put a Chevy in it....

unreal repair. I still dont understand how you did it, but it looks great. who would have thought that was possible.
As far as JB weld, most remember, my rock hits from the off-tracker Evo I was racing. I had a nasty hole in the radiator in a 100degree weekend. pinched off the damaged radiator cross tube and filled the entire area with JB welld. that was in 2005, and its still holding today, 4 racing seasons later!!! (knock knock)
