928 VS 911
I currently have a 1990 928 Black Automatic S4 and I love it. I have wanted one since I was 8 and saw my first one in 1978.
Now that I have it and have been enjoying it for 3 years. My wife wants to get a 911 (1990-1999) stick convertible. She said the 928 is fast but boring to drive. She is expecting me to sell the 928 for her to get a 911 for room. She said what is the difference if we have a 928 or 911. For me this makes no sense. The 911's of that era seem just as fast as the 928 (maybe a bit more fun). I do not think the 911 is the machine the 928 is.
What do you think?

Your going to get a biased answer here favoring the 928. Keep the 928 change the wife... Just kidding....

Dear online discussion-group-that-drinks-beer-which-tastes-great:
My wife wants me to switch my brand of beer to one that is less filling. I have always loved my tastes-great beer but she wants me to buy less filling beer instead. What do you, tastes-great guys, think?
If she wants a 911 'vert stick then she has has great taste and is a keeper of a wife. She should buy a '95 993 Carrera convertible in her favorite color for herself. If you have a toy that you love, she is entitled to a toy that she'll love. But not at the expense of your toy.
Tricky, this love thing is.

If she finds the 928 boring, just get a supercharger and install...
Then take it out and scare the crap out of her....
A 928 is an excellent design. A 911 is a flawed design that works because it's been forced to.
I'd tell her to pack sand, but that's just me....

we'll need some inside info to help.......like what's important [about a car] to her? I remember years ago, my dad's buddies would razz him by saying. "a 911 is just a VW with lock washers'. I have to admit, after driving a 928 - they might be on to something. Regardless - the 911 is a very cool, but different car than a 928.
Remeber - there's three iterations of the 911 between 1990 and 1999......IIRC 2 air cooled models and one water cooled.

As noted if a Porsche is a Porsche keep the 928! If she wants a 911 Cabrio stick then tell her to get a good job and save her money and she can buy one of those or whatever else she can afford.
The 928 is WAY MORE car than a 911! That is why they cost about 50% MORE when they were new vs. the 911! Is a 911 Cab 5spd a fun car...DAMN RIGHT!!! Better car than a 928....DOUBTFUL!
Tell her to save about 50% of that purchase price and get a 2000 Boxster 5spd... every bit as fun and cheaper! Probably cheaper to maintain too! I think better looking than the pre 993 911's as well. Heck, equal to the 993's even in looks. YMMV!
Best of luck!

How do you/wife drive the 928?
Perhaps get her on a race track and demonstrate how it really goes.
My wife is scared to death when I drive the 928 at 7/10ths.............many bruised ribs over the years.

Until recently my wife had a 993. She did not feel safe in it and did not like the lack of space in it.
My chief complaint about the 993 was the fact that the steering wheel is slightly offset toward the middle of the car, enough so that I had the sensation the car was "crabbing" down the road. I suppose if it had been my DD I would have gotten used to it, but I did not care for the way it made me feel driving it.
That said, it was a quick and nimble car & fun to drive. For long trips, 928 hands down.
