In trying to echo the sentiments of Clarkson, it's not what car you drive, it's how you drive it. 928's usually don't get exciting until you're going way too fast for public roads. 911's get the adrenaline pumping because you're only one tight corner from lethally backing yourself into a tree. Methinks she just wants that wind in her hair experience of a ragtop and driving a stick; teach her how to use the auto and open the sunroof, and maybe go to an autocross.
She thinks a 911 is exciting? Get her into an Ariel Atom; just don't tell her about the part where you wind up eating bugs as part of every ride. They show up on ebay occasionally. http://www.arielatom.com/

Wives who want a 911 are fun?
This thread is killing me... so many punchlines to post!! Must... resist...
I really love all the logical, reasoned suggestions from the clearly-single men! She thinks the 911 and 928 are interchangeable - only because she wants to interchange them!
Ultimately all you have to do, as has been suggested, is keep from losing your toy for the sake of hers.

I have to concur with your wife. The 911 is a better car. Lets look at the facts:
better resale value
better looks
better durability
lighter..thus better on the track
just better.....sorry your wife knows best here.

You must be a 911 owner that has never driven a 928. Oh look I just checked some of your previous posts, I am right!!!!

The 911's a better car? For what? Even Porsche moved the engine to the middle of the car when they decided to make serious racing cars, why, for better weight distribution. The only reason Porsche still makes them (911 series) is because people will buy them for the same reason people buy Harleys; it's a macho thing to do. Look, I can drive the worst handling thing in creation! What an expert driver I must be, huh!
Sorry, couldn't resist. But I hate to see people pay more money for poorer engineering, and that's what a rear engine car is. At least you can get her a Boxter if she really wants an open top car, and maybe even save a few pennies in the process.

You guys really want to get me going again.
Don't let these guys bamboozle you. The 928 is an outstanding car and so is the 911. Just different strokes for different folks. Some like it horizontal air/oil cooled and some like it V with water added but both are great and both serve different purposes.
To be honest their is only one 911 worth owning and that is a coupe. The rest are not at all the same and i have no purpose for them myself. They are nice but I don't see the purpose of owning a fast car without some steel around me.
If she likes an open air car buy her a 993 targa or a boxster. But honestly any rag top will suffice if that is what thrills her. Just don't buy the new Miata Mx5 or whatever the new model designation is. Absolutely horrible car.
IMO stay away from the water cooled 911's if your looking for a fun car. Capable yes but if she doesn't like driving a 928 she won't enjoy a 996 anymore. The earlier 911's are so much more fun to drive and a thrill every mile. The 996 feels like a bla 928 to me when I drive them unless it is a GT2 or GT3. Don't believe that they are unsafe, they are not. They are as equally amazing as a 928 and I challenge anyone here to say that a (non turboed, supercharged or increased displacement) 928 is more of a thrill ride than my 94 turbo which is probably the most exciting Porsche made. It might not be as capable as the new GT cars but it is damn close and is the biggest E ticket Porsche I have driven which covers almost all the models.
My wife loves our 928 but loves our 911's also. Just try to find a way to convert her. They are all fantastic cars and if a 928 bores her you might not find a car that will excite her.

And handling that gets people going backwards in a hurry; is that really what you want your woman driving (hmmm, she's a bit mouthy, maybe it is)?? Sorry, I've known a few that thought they were 'expert drivers' that killed themselves in 911's. Sure, experts can drive them. But the rest of us who only think we are experts should avoid them like the plague. So unless they race cars for a living, maybe just perhaps those people should stick to cars with a bit better balance and more forgiving handling. Like, maybe, a 928. No other manufacturer on the planet sells high horsepower rear engined sports cars, and there's a good reason for that. Safety.

I have to admit that was the biggest pile of **** I have seen flung on rennlist to date. If I didn't know better I would have bought every word.
